Own a piece of history. L18 Blowthrough Turbo

Ok, semi local history, but cool none the less.

A long time ago in a land not so far away, a certain "Keith" person build an L18 blow through turbo motor. He drove it until the usual "I need more power" thing took hold. The motor was disassembled and re-machined and new parts were acquired, but for some reason it was not re-assembled and put back in use. A better motor was apparently found and this venerable L18 was sold.

Move ahead 20 or so years, and I come to discover the where-abouts of this L18 and all of its goodies, stored well and ready to be re-assembled and put to use. These pieces come to me and I become the new costodian. Well I can't see using it, so I am seeking the next dreamer.

PS: I saw Keith this year at Knox and told him I now had the motor. He laughed, especially when I asked him if he wanted it back. Apparently I'm free to let it go to its next owner. I'd also invite Keith and Trevor to chime in and fill in the details and time lines if they care.

Upon inspection, it appears the motor is ready to be re-assembled. All components including rings, bearings etc are there.

It has an open chamber A87 with dished pistons, and the head has been cut more than once. Let the pictures show what's there.
The only thing not shown in pictures is a brand spanking new Weber Downdraft carb and a polished front cover.

I'm going to throw a number out there because I have to, but it's just a number. Make me a fair offer.

The weber carb is in the white box. Really

Yes the carb goes inside the cool gray two part metal box... The box is explosion proof, weighs more than the head...

Does not include a turbo or blow off valve, unless Trevor still has them kicking around in the garage.

WOW... as we talked about at Knox...that sure does bring back memories for sure!!!!!

A bit of back ground ( I still need to write my "build thread") which will be more of a historical look at how I got to where I am. No one has seen the first pictures of my RED 510.

I had finally gotten my G-Force issue solved with the change to a Weber 32/36 in the mid seventies. As I was caught up in the technical fun of making my 1972 510 faster and faster, I kept incurring more points in the car classification scale. So, at a point, I decided to build this 1800 engine, and, with the help of a fabricator friend, made this air box, to make changing jets that much faster...oh to have had a wide band. This bumped me up a class to Street Prepared and away I went. This would be 1976 - to the the fall of 1977, where, as some of you know, I rolled the car on the Sea to Sky highway, though no fault of mine.

This is when I really started dealing with Specialty, as he graciously offered to let my wreck come to his shop, I could strip the parts off it and find another 510. The offer was there to help me build another car, and with that in mind, just JUMP to the Modified class and then I could modify and build stuff to my hearts content. It was then that the 2.0 litre was first built and the 1800 retired, and, I went back to the original air box set up, as I came up with a whole different way of doing the throttle, among other things.

That 1800 was a great motor, revved like crazy and did win me a B.C. title one year.

Here are a few pics of the car up at Vernon for a slalom, that MBG GT drove me crazy for a few years, just nipping my by a few 10th's, we had great races. The, the picture of the car at Andy's being stripped. The track picture shows the stupid body roll with some of the BRE stuff (on Atlantic tires), which, when we built my red car we turfed as we just upped the whole spring and ant-roll bars rates big time.

Not to side track the add, I can see in the one picture a black looking cylinder on the passenger fire wall. This was my "cool can". 4 feet of copper wire wound in there and then filled with dry ice..Yikes...the stuff I tried!

Good news. The engine has found a new owner. Thanks to Peter B. in Calgary for giving it a new home.
