Good Luck on the drive gang! I just could not face that this year, I'd rather drive 500 miles with some corners and other scenery.

Speaking of which, when this event is over, lets start to plan our first summer drive. I have a route planned out. With our cooler temperatures, it will make for a nice day for the cars.

I won't be making it down this year, but next year for sure.. I also agree with Keith the I5 is not a drive that does anything for me. but if you take an extra day and drive down the coast that would be sweet

I am Canby ready. It would have been nice to start heading down tonight, but it’s now 10:30pm and to be honest, there’s not much pint. I’ll hit the hay and get an early start.
My daughter will be joining me, so I spent some time getting her seat into the front of the car, shortening up those stock belts does take some time! I’m thankful I don’t have the retractable type, as I can synch down her car seat really well. The seat belt bar in the back made a great tether strap anchor point as well! I also got the DVD player hooked up on a separate plug of it’s own, she has a cup holder built into her Britax seat. I even stopped by Grainger and picked up an small size industrial set of ear muffs to dampen the noise, and then got her an ultra small set of ear phones that she can plug into the DVD player… a happy good is worth the effort. It’ll be her first road trip with dad, so I want to make it as pleasant as I can. A 4 ½ year old on a 7 hour drive is a long haul. I think we’ll be tossing around a ball or something at a few rest stops along the way I’m sure.
For those who are attending, I hope to roll into Canby sometime mid afternoon.

I took hardly any photos this year, which was a shame as there was a great collection of machinery present - in all forms of Datsun/Nissan.

And in keeping with my fondness of 68's - here's Jeff's mad camber gobstopper machine.
But I have one question Jeff, how can you drive a car in traffic like this... with no rear view
I'll donate an actual 68 part, no problem

HAHA That would be awesome Byron!!!!!!! I don't know if you noticed but that car is short quite a few things a car should have. Like blinkers :) Kinda makes it fun to drive that way. More stuff to do. I have a big to do list for the gobstopper this summer .

It was great seeing you and your daughter down there. Sure seemed like she had a good time. Maybe it was because there where so many kids this year.

The drive back was fun too! I like the express lanes :)

Friday night one of the boys from Idaho showed up with a slipping and burnt up clutch. A few parts were donated and the truck was back on the road in about 4 hrs.

Image

Saturday another ratsun member showed up with a barely running blown motor. Again a $50 (it ran when I removed it but the head gasket was blown) motor was located locally and the swap was on...

Image

... completed Sunday. It included some seals, a new timing chain kit and the head from the blown motor. The rear tube bumper from a 620 was used to lift it out and in by hand. It easily survived the 4 hour trip home and won the "First Canby Motor Swap" award.

This is jeff. Sleeping on a couple of 510 rear seats with an electric blanket. Does it get any more hard core?

This is me last year...

Image

Byron it was a pleasure meeting you again and the ride home was a hoot. This is the second year that I have given an Asian tranny a ride home in my car. I found this one for sale that was mis-identified and sold as an L18 short transmission for a 510....

Image

... $20! Well... and an 8 pack of beer for a good friend to run over and snag it for me. Can anyone else identify what this transmission really is and what it came out of???
