That was fun! I have to say the stock wagon did pretty good, sure needs some more poop for the hills though, maybe some better brakes and yah, some better suspension for the curves !
Paul's Fiat was gorgeous and I was totally impressed with him tearing apart his carbs in Merritt in 15 minutes and re adjusting everything on the fly! Say, Richard, was yours the other Toyota? I mean Alveen's silver Cressida was nice.
That was a good call on the time Keith and a great pick of roads, thanks for organizing it! The drive was great until after lunch so I zoned out listening to my thumping AM/FM Cassette sound system ! Gotta say Puccini can be heard over the car noise if you turn it up enough! The wasp stings I got in Ashcroft are all infected now, just put some cream on to draw out the toxins !
Ran into a huge traffic jam at Mt Lehman, so I pulled off the highway and took the Fraser Highway home, back at 6:15pm for a quick shower and join the family for dinner!
I'll try and post some pictures later.

Re: RUN BEYOND HOPE 2011
Morning World...thanks to all that made TRIP! What a great turn out of cars
Wow, what a day, that was some serious miles we put under the ole' 40 year old chassis's. Matt and I were pretty fried by the time we got home. That bloody #1 just ruins the end of the day for sure, talk about an under designed road for the traffic load now. We bailed at the Abbottsford Airport exit, and wound our way to 16th, then back down Highway 99.
I think doing that sort of distance in one day is pushing it a tad. We have now done most of the close loops, within a days drive, for the most part now. Just think....with another hour of driving, it would have been the equivalent of driving from Vancouver to Calgary.
We really did luck out with getting the first 2/3's of the drive with such clear roads. Matt and I had a clear run most of the way to Spences Bridge, with a plucky BMW driver finally moving over for us, as he knew he was in way over his head, on those tight twisty's...heh..heh..
Matt swears he is NOT coming with me again on these hot drives, unless I get a roll down window on his side...I do not blame him. HEAT soak IN the car was was 108 F., and once we were moving it was 98 F. My engine ran well though, with water only hitting 175F, and my inter cooler temp ran 100F when we were flying along. Heat soak from the radiator wash to my intake was 130+ at one point, wish I could do something to alleviate that.
Oil pressure dropped maybe 5lbs, at the highest speed part of the cruise. I made it from Merritt to the plant on a tank of fuel, not sure how much is left, but I did not hear the fuel pump start to whine. I will figure out rough fuel mileage later today.
I finally figured out why you guys let me lead too...I CLEARED ALL the bugs out of your path. It's kinda like the first guy we send down the trail mountain biking...he gets to clear all the spider webs from across the trail. I swear I looked at the front of every bodies car at the A & W, and you hardly had any bugs on there. It is going to take me an hour today to wash my car clean of the buggers, specially out of the grill and radiator.
Nicest part of the drive for me was the climb out of Ashcroft, through to Merritt. What a great stretch of scenic road, and to have no traffic, that was a treat for sure.
I will load up a ton of pictures tonight, to share our trip with you all.

Say Keith, I know that my odometer is off a bit, but, upon return to home I had put on 510 miles on the wagon for this trip, nice coincidence ....

Re: RUN BEYOND HOPE 2011
So, here we go with some pics and numbers.
I averaged 23 MPG, which is about on par with most trips, but, was not bad considering the actual cruise rate of 75 - 80 MPH for a good chunk of the way.
That being said, my engine running time was 9 hours flat, which for 500 miles translates to about 55 MPH average. Just shows how some slow traffic and driving just drags things down. Matt and I did almost the whole section from Merritt to Spences at 80+ MPH. We left the plant at 5:30 pretty much, and were back by 6:30, which is about usual for these long road trips., 4,500 rpm in my car translates to 77 MPH, and we lived there a LONG time on some of those sections.
I used about 21 to 23 gallons of fuel, plus 3.6 litres of my octane booster. I burned up only 3/4 of a litre of methanol, as most of my accelerations were of very short duration.
On with the pics.......ENJOY.....you will never see this many 510's together in real life, on a real road trip too often. We had NO mechanicals, and considering the heat we went through, at good speed, had no over heating issues either.
