I'll be out there Sunday. A work function came up Saturday so I'll miss the first day.

There was a Vintage race weekend then suddenly a car show broke out. There was a parade and the Mayor of Abbotsford was asked to pick the best in show. There were Ferraris, and Morgans, a very cool Trans-Am Cougar, a Tiger, lots of British other stuff, and exotics and sports cars of various manufacturers from around the globe. And the winner was ...

....thanks for the intro Derek.

Yes, this was a bit of a surprise to say the least. I showed up at the historic races at Mission this past weekend to help my friend and shop mate Paul for his day of vintage action in his 69 510. Arriving early and in the rain, I was asked at the front gate to park my car in the classic car corral - it seemed like a good idea, it beats being parked amongst the beat up F250's and minivans in the general parking lot. I was also told that as a participant in the classic car corral, I would have the opportunity to do a few parade laps at the lunch break on the track. Sounded like a nice bonus, and it turned out to be pretty fun to open up the car on the front strait, even if it was in the rain.
So afterwards the Bronze got parked back in the corral. About 3 hours later, an announcement comes over the PA for the owner of a Datsun 510, license plate blah blah blah, please report to the car corral. Yes, that was my car and my plate…Now thinking some idiot just ran into the car or something worse, I headed for the parking lot fearing the worst. On arrival, I'm told to just stick around...
I looked at the car, it seemed fine. But there was all this secrecy. So I hung around, looked at some rather fine Ferraris, Porsche’s, a number of really cool British stuff from nearly all the classic makes like Mini's, Triumphs, MG's, Morgans and the like. Another car that caught my eye was a Dan Gurney tribute 68 Mercury Cougar, and there was no shortage of Corvettes as this was the chosen mark for this year’s event.
Eventually I learn that the Mayor of Abbotsford has chosen my 510 as the best in show in the car corral.... my 510! I didn't even wash the damn thing! I was shocked to say the least. The Mayor himself got tied up and couldn’t present the trophy in person, so it was presented by the organizer. Thankfully Derek happened to be standing there as this was announced, and took the photo of me being presented the trophy (in front of an S2000...) on his phone – good timing Derek.
So, my hats off to the Mayor of Abbotsford BC - you have fine taste my political friend. I should write you an email and thank you just the same.
Quite the day in the rain on Sunday.

And it's actually quite a nice trophy. All metal and real wood with a nicely engraved plaque. The organizer stated that this was the first year that this show was organized, but there will be more in the future at this same event.
