I would like to catch up to you in Winthrop for lunch. I'll stay over Saturday nite, sounds like you all will be doing the trip in one day, but if anyone decides to stay over and camp............... Have a few friends there. Lots of great places to eat and drink in town. The School House Brew pub is a favorite. It will be packed, so be ready. Not sure, but might not find any parts though, I know Twisp, 9 miles farther south has a Napa auto parts. Gas is readily available. Lots of bikers ride through on the Cascade Loop. Hope to not get behind any motorhomes.

July 6-7 is their long weekend. Just sayin'...
There's the big vintage racing weekend at Seattle that weekend too.

I'm intestinal in being a passenger, more so I can take pictures/video better.
Hard to imagine not driving though...

Thanks for the heads up....the nature of the Beast now is that it is summer, and there WILL be traffic. WE wanted a date on the calendar......heck, the weather could kibosh this in a heart beat anyhow. As I look out my window here it is pissing rain.

The days of our magic winding road with NO traffic are long gone, relegated to our collective memory.

The KEY here now is to NOT dawdle in the morning, at least get a one way run before the fishermen and campers and bikers and other groups like us, hit the damn thing. In theory, if we cross the Border at 5:00, we should be in Sedro by 6'ish, and heading up #20. Last year we lost well over an hour in Whistler, which cost us dearly. We all need to top up fuel in Blaine, then giv'er. On the drive up, we can either decide to watch for photo op's for the way back, or, if traffic is light, we can stop. Never having driven this section I have no idea what to expect.

Doug, I had looked at those restaurants in Winthrop, again if we are early enough, we might miss the classic lunch break, be more like a brunch for us.

Either way, it's an adventure in our classic cars, with a great group of people.

The road has sharp turns and some great curving steep sections. WATCH for DEER!!! Lots of them!!! My greatest fear driving the North Cascades highway and the Methow valley. The man will be patrolling also!!! You will be going over two mountain passes.

As far as lunch or brunch, the School House Brewery has both indoor and outdoor seating. Yes, best to beat the noon crowd. There is a Mexican join next door. Also an outdoor bbq 1/2 mile away.

We do not have much rain on the east side of the Cascades, but if a front moves in from the west, you will be driving in the wet most of the way till you make the final descent. If a front comes up from the south, thunder storms are likely, usually in the afternoon, and might not affect the west side of the mountains, so lets check the weather.

Thanks for the road report, we are used to watching for wildlife, blasted past a herd of Mountain Sheep a few years ago.

The weather has to be IMPECCABLE....period! I will be contacting NASA to re-target their satellites for the latest up to date weather report.

Hmm...I probably won't know until very close to that weekend. I'd guess no because I have too many things in transition yet (I have just over 100 miles on the recent rebuild/upgrades). Shasta is the weekend after (the Roadster crew opened it to all Datsuns this year).

Damn, so close. Is there a B.C. meet this year?

It would be cool if you made it, but, we know what it is like.

We are still 2 and a bit weeks out yet, and it will even be a last minute call in terms of weather for us also.

You bet there is...Aug. 10/11; Autocross and Show

I wasn't aware that the Shasta event had been revived again, and open to all Datsuns. That's great news, I'll have to search.

So, we are two weeks away from our potential drive to Winthrop, Wa..

The long range weather is starting to look like our normal July weather, starting this coming weekend, and it looks very good.

As we get a bit closer, and things look good, lets do a tool/parts inventory as to who is carrying what.

As this high pressure ridge builds, it does look like our weekend drive will fly. Temps look to be in the 90'sF ( 32C.) in Winthrop. So, we all need to make sure our cooling systems are in good shape. The drive up would be cooler, but, the trip back will be warm.

Are you guys good with Saturday for the drive? This will give us Sunday to recuperate, and, minimize any Border issues due to the U.S. holiday. I'm thinking we cross the Border at 5:00 A.M..

Consensus.....

Saturday will be a better day for heading back over the pass as well - traffic can be pretty bad on Sundays as everyone is returning from their weekend trips. This is definitely the case with Stevens and Snoqualmie passes and I imagine it will be similar on Hwy 20.
