Re: First drive of the year
Unfortunately, they don't allow spots to be saved. Due to the large amount of cars expected, you have to park as you get seeded in, just like the Langley show.
I have no idea if the old company phone gets text, I don't think so. I PM'd you the cell number, which you should have. I can only hear the phone when stopped anyhow.

Holy Mother of God....Crudmucker...was that hot!!
I'm Sea to Sky'd out and now I'm done with car shows for the year, other than our Nissan event. Crazy traffic and dust to get in, then, heavy traffic to get out. Give me the open road please. Last count we heard was 1,000 cars.
Same old fields of Detroit iron we see all the time. I met some old friends, so that is always a treat.
Richard and I stuck it out till we were baked, about 1:30, so we wisely decided to beat the major mayhem that would happen with one lane out of the park.
It was so nice to get out on the freeway and open it up, trying to cool off. My new radiator is awesome, temperature stayed right where it should. When I got back to the plant I just had to wash the car, so much grey fine dust.
Pictures to follow after a few Stanley Park ales and fathers day dinner.

Re: First drive of the year
Was nice to wander through, great location other than the dust from late comers & the early leavers, we arrived about 11 and cars were already leaving. We Saw Byron's dad's awesome custom, an RX2, a whole row of Hondas and a good turnout of Aircooled dubs to compliment the heavy iron. A nice sampling of early trucks too, but not much stock vintage tin, mostly muscle cars & rods...oh and a halftrack!!
Keith & Richard had the sole two Datsun's and were wisely parked away from the dusty roads, the kids managed to fill a 24 car garage with " dad WE should have one of these!! ", I see a ride with Purple Flames in my daughters future...
Great day out, followed by late lunch and a good burn/ wander out Sylvester Rd way.

Re: First drive of the year
You guys paint quite the picture! 1000 cars, wow. Look forward to seeing some shots after you've settled down.
I was in Vancouver and Maple Ridge area two years ago, and honestly didn't find the traffic that bad though I avoided driving during rush hour. Relatives we were visiting said there was road construction going on EVERYWHERE, I experienced this first hand!
Always enjoy my time there, but not having to deal with daily commuting I've never experienced the traffic congestion. Wife wants to go back soon.

Re: First drive of the year
More like 1,200+ cars. I took a walk about, and at 11:45 asked the organizers at the main gate how many cars they had. They were already at 1,176. They were accepting entries till 1:30 and cars were still trickiling in!!
Was brutal getting out. Like Keith, give me the " long and winding road " any time . Was a great venue though, with beautiful vista's of the Fraser river and Mount Baker capped in snow. All from under the shade of ancient orchard trees, with a lovely cool breeze wafting up from the flowing cool waters of the river. But our sap-ophobic friend " Mr Gadget ", doesn't like nice cool shade trees. I think he's been out in the Sun too much...
After getting clear of Mission... which looked like West Georgia street on a Friday rush hour the drive home was uneventful. After a bite to eat, a cool shower, watching Alonso and Kimi performing obscene acts in Austria... I began to doze off. Just woke up now at 7:00 PM... and look like a boiled Lobster.
Took quite a few pictures and will post up a link... but probably not till tomorrow. Those Stanley Park Ales sound like a good idea.....

Re: First drive of the year
That was a shite load of cars.
Been a good 6 or 7 years since I spectated this show with my youngest son and his friend. Still the same gigantic collection of American hot rods, muscle cars and Datsun .01% er's
Dragged my lucky wife this time, she was good sport, listening to all my highly enlightened car talk education.
Felt kind sorry for the guys parked along the edge of the roadways......man it was dusty, some of those beauties were covered in the stuff. If you had an open car or windows open it was ugly.
Good seeing you guys there.

Re: First drive of the year
Morning World,
After the beer kicked in I had time to mull over the day. The issue for me is that so called racing clutch...ON..or..OFF. This type of situation is way worse than normal traffic at a light. At some points it was also up hill, just compounding the issue, where you really can't ride the clutch a tad.
Anyhow, yes that dust was brutal for those guys who parked on that corner. EVERY car was grey by noon. Be hours cleaning those up. Once I got out of Abbotsford Hwy 1 flowed really well with only one slow spot before 200th. I had a few people slow down beside me to look at the car, our 510's both being unique now, and, we sure are small now compared to today's cars.
I did meet a fellow from a long time ago, who had some stories from the Westwood days. A name came up, JOHN HALL, who was quite the car builder and racer in Vancouver . A friend of mine at the time bought a real Boss 302 that had been basically prepped as a street driven Trans-Am car, for an Airline pilot, by John. It was very cool. He and I did a road trip one time, he in the Boss and me in my 72' turbo car. I don't think we went below 70 MPH the whole way through the Hope Princeton at the time. That car really handled well.
My car cleaned up ok, had some high speed bugs splattered on my cow catcher , will give the engine bay a dust out today.

Re: First drive of the year
I must have gotten Sunstroke or Heat stroke. I've only no woken up ( 11:30 AM Monday ). I've been zonked out pretty much since 3:00 PM yesterday.
Will have a good look at the Z and wash all the dust off etc.
Was a good event but too hot and dusty. I much prefer smaller Car shows like Steam Works and KMS Tools.
West Coast Nissan in Mapleridge is having a car show on August 30th. Contact Glen Goodwin for more details.

Re: First drive of the year
I took a picture of the Boler trailer, as I also have one of these vintage trailers, made in Canada during the 70's and 80's. I talked with the fellow for 1/2 an hour, as there is a cult Boler following. We talk about the mods we have done, the frame issues, etc.. There are always tips others have learned, and vice versa, I have had mine for going on 20+ years. They are fiberglass and were very light, only about 950 LBs unloaded. A very easy tow for anything with 150 HP. These little trailers came with a neat fridge, a small furnace, and could sleep four, perfect for young families, which is why I got mine. We got tired of tenting in B.C.'s torrential rains, with young kids. Theses things keep you warm and dry in almost any weather. Mine has been used in -10C weather and we have been fine. Two showed up at this show, as the car guys love them, usually painting them to match their car or hot rod.

Re: First drive of the year
I actually took a day to drive Ole Blue out to Sons of Norway's Tin Can Trailer event a few weeks back. Dad took his custom 53 Ford Custom. There was a pile of Bolers there Keith, along with a number of much more vintage aluminum trailers. Some cool stuff for sure, but of interest to you was two Bolers which had custom aluminum box tube frames to "fix" the inherent issues with them.
I took no photos of the trailers because I didn’t think anyone would actually care. But I did take this one of the wackiest electric golf cart I think I’ve ever seen. You’ll note the Boler in the back ground though.

Re: First drive of the year
Like any group, there is quite the passion for our old Bolers. There is even a BOLERAMA in Ontario, and the EGGFEST in Alberta.
These things have appreciated in value also, I paid I think, 1,600.00 for mine and could easily sell it for 6 -7 thousand now.
All my wiring had been professionally done before I bought it, so that was great, no hackers had been at it. I have converted almost everything to LED lights now. Last year I finally had to put a new fridge in which was not cheap but it just adds to the value at this point. When your out for a week, there is no way ice lasts for more than 3 days in this sort of heat.
I get someone either putting a note on my Boler or tapping on my door to see if I want to sell it all the time.
I wish I had known that was going on, it would have been fun to attend.
