The 1st Annual Classic Datsun / Nissan Round Up Sunday August 30th 2015
Re: The 1st Annual Classic Datsun / Nissan Round Up Sunday August 30th 2015
I especially likes this pairing, James and Gagan’s 240’s doing the David and Goliath impersonation – awesome. I love Gagan’s 240 look with the ZG flares – has the Road Warrior appeal that works.

A half dozen roadsters turned out – Mitch’s beautifully restored car took home the favored Roadster. All of the cars were beautiful, ranging from full stock, to KA and SR powered – but going up against this restored beauty makes me feel sorry for the rest as Mitch set that bar HIGH!

For the JDM class – I think these guys suffer from ADD or something – show up, and leave 90 minutes later… I don’t get it. BoyZZZZZ, stick around!
At any rate, 2 JDM cars caught my eye – John’s 92 R32 – complete with kids seat tucked under the roll bar – awesome, because I thought I was the only guy doing this….

And then there is this Nissan Staega, which is virtually the same car as Johns R32 above including the turbo inline 6, fully active AWD ect, only covered in sheep’s clothing wagon coachwork appropriately white in this case. If you are a Nissan wagon fan – drool on!
The attending crowd obviously thought the same as me – he took home the favored JDM trophy – cool car.

The Missan brothers cleaned house in the 510 and Sedan department – cool to see as their whole extended families including multiple examples to 3 generations worth were present – which is also cool to see, a true family affair.
Mandeep taking home the best 510 trophy – well deserved. The car speaks for itself. This car was painted by Tyson, and meticulously assembled by Mandeep with many touches hand machined by Mandeep’s father. Mandeep’s extremely careful attention to detail in the assembly of this new power plant shows. There are parts in this car from just about every major distributor of 510 components as Mandeep has personally visited Mario, Troy in California and even Baz in Australia while procuring parts and information to put this car together. Very cool, and the great craftsmanship and work shows from all involved. From the incredibly clean wiring, to the hand made LHD late SSS cluster that Mandeep spent many, many months on alone – it’s a very cool package and one of the better showing cars around. When the interior gets done, this will be a show car to beat anywhere.

Not to be out done, Mandeeps brother Pritpal has his beautiful ‘69 4dr car shown below. I liked the customer 69 dash refinishing, making it also a one of a kind. The colour in the photos does not do it justice, in person it looks great. Pritpal benefited greatly from Mandeep’s engine upgrade, getting the twin cam KA from the Mandeep household parts bin. Looks just as nice in Pritpal’s car as it did in Mandeep’s car many years ago.
To round out the story, Mandeeps father come over as I'm taking pictures - "Just you wait and see what my car will be like!" and then walks away. Awesome – nothing like some light family competition; I can't wait to see what dad has in store for us on his (spoiler alert) ‘68 4 dr. As a side note, I wish mom a speedy recovery with the new knee - even though she was bound to the car today, she was in the parking lot to support her sons all day.
Here are some shots of Pritpal’s car - check out that colour!

Ian T takes home not 1, but 2 trophies for his series 1 260Z S30 with the Yamaha SHO motor. You may recall me writing about this car a few weeks ago. It's been through many iterations, including tripple carbs and then graduating to the turbo OHC I6, and now this - all while never drilling extra holes anywhere in the bodywork through all the major engine changes. It has not been repainted in 35 years, and all of these engine builds have been in the same engine bay - super clean, and again paying attention to details, always.
Great job Ian - well deserved.

Rod L, a longtime supporter of the local Datsun shows also took home a trophy for his SDS controlled, supercharged SOHC I6 series II 240Z. This car is always beautiful, and again that paint is serious OLD – and was applied by Rod himself in the 90’s. Thos are not decals either!
Some things just do get better with age. And thi car gets driven all up and down the west coast to various Nissan shows and events. Way to go (Rockin) Rod!

An honorable mention for me is this car – Ralphs long awaited VG car that was built in a garage that was 2 foot wider and 3’ longer than the car itself over the past 18 years! This is the first time I have seen the car outside that garage. There may have been only 1 or 2 other Realm members who saw this car during the duration of the build, and it look awesome – great job Ralph. It’s so good to see the car outside, and soooo good to see you finally driving the car after all these years. It looks great.

Considering the weather when the day started out, Glen Goodwin is one to something with this show. Full PA, good music, a food truck on site, we;; organized and a great location with lots of room to expand. We had a piece of the front lot this weekend, and as Glen told me as I was leaving”… next year the whole lot!” as he gestured his arm across the side are rear lots where all the cars were literally packed in so we could use the front lot!
Greta job Glen, I look forward to the 2nd Annual All Datsun Nissan Round Up next year.
