WINTHROP Drive 2017

Post by bertvorgon »

I am putting this up now, as a drive for September, so maybe start thinking of a date(s) that might work.

This would be a good time to go as weather is potentially still good and the bulk of tourists should be diminished. One way distance from Blaine ( as a reference point) to Winthrop is 282 KM ( 175 miles).

This would be as early a start as possible as the reward for the drive down is just fantastic, we would stop for a photo op at the "Liberty Bell Mountain" look out. Lunch would be at one of the Winthrop dinners, maybe go through the museum above town, fuel up, then back.

Here is a picture of the LIBERTY BELL MOUNTAIN from our 2013 drive.

I'm in. The only weekend I can't go is the first weekend. That is my little girl's birthday.

At that distance I may need to fill up on the way. With as Dean put it "my badly controlled leak" for fuel economy.

Best to top up in Sedro Woolly then, as after that, if early, there are not many stations that I remember. It's only 127 miles from there to Winthrop.

Really smokey here in Chelan, 80 miles south from BC fires, and now a local fire.
The 9th and 10th in September in Winthrop might be their car show weekend, so we might join in?
Look forward to seeing you whatever weekend you show.

Thanks for the update, I figured it would be smoky down there also. We are supposed to get some off shore wind starting of Friday so hopefully it flushes the smoke out. Been very bad and I just came back from a mountain trip north of Vancouver, EVERYTHING is socked in, never seen anything like this ever.

I had no idea the car show was that weekend, if we come on that Saturday I hope we are early enough to get parking at that lot that we met you at last time. Makes me think we should bring our own lunches too, as it will be crazy busy with the limited restaurants there. Or, we head down on the Sunday, have to think about that. Could be a lot more traffic too. It is only on the Saturday, right?

It looks like my wife has planned my daughter's birthday for the weekend we are planning on going on this drive. Hopefully I don't have to miss out.

Would the weekend of the 16/17th work. My 6th sense says we should pass on the Saturday due to that car show...PERIOD!
