Well that was a great drive. That new pavement is great. Dean and Byron I saw you headed the other way as I was running to the ferry. Dean was just in front of the motorcyclist who rear ended a car and Byron was just after. I bet that added a bunch of time to your drive.
If no one from the future comes back to stop you from doing it then how bad of a decision can it really be?

Well it was a great day
Even if I limped home on 3 cylinders due to a broken rocker arm on cylinder #2
Removed the push rod and spark plug, and drove home.
A little slow up hill, but not too bad, as long as kept the engine around 5-6000 it wasn't too bad
I would like to thank James, Byron, Dean and Malcom for babysitting me home, much appreciated.
I did try to keep It interesting on the drive back through Duffy, but that missing cylinder didn't help.
I guess a few of us have a project for the winter.

What a day! Thanks to all for coming out, sorry if it seemed to get scattered at the end. We stopped in Lytton thinking you all were coming behind us, I did not get the memo that you were going the Duffy I guess.
That pavement was awesome and we will never get that opportunity again for such a smooth surface and I cannot believe we had NO traffic in front of us for the whole trip.
POOF..my headlights went out this morning, good thing my night vision is still good for an old guy. I tucked behind a semi till the morning light got a bit brighter, did not want to get spotted by a cop.
Where was the accident? On the Sea to Sky? We had clear running until the later part of the Canyon, just great.
I will have to figure out what happened to my lights as the fuses were ok and the relay was clicking, a power issue somewhere.
NOTE: check your fans and rads, I had a few leaves jammed into my fans which I noticed when I washed the car this afternoon.
Ha, got 24.3 MPG on the drive to Lillooet. I did a total of 595 Km, or 369 miles today.

The accident was heading west just before the capilano river. Just before the corner.

Oh, I was confused but I see now. I just hate that Sea to Sky/Upper levels/Iron Workers corridor now, it's just too much of a gong show with no escape routes.

What a great day!
Fantastic choice of roads Keith. New pavement and virtually no traffic makes for good times.
The drive back on the Duffy was great actually. Light traffic and road was in really good shape.
Paul broke a rocker just as we started up the hill to the lookout and I thought for sure he was headed back on a flat deck.....nuh uh!
Macgyver man pulled the push rod from the damaged cylinder, yanked the spark plug, grounded it to insure it continued firing and didn’t damaged the coil and drove home on 975cc’s..... and an epic effort it was. Not quite the same pace as the drive up the canyon but I was stunned how well it did missing a cylinder, he deserves a trophy!
We were all commenting on the pace he kept, I’ll never diss a French car again.

There were about 15 to 20 cars after you Dean then nothing. The biker had just gone down about a minute before I came by.

Morning World.
Glad everyone made it, safety in numbers for sure. I know my little issue pointed out that some basic things need to be right at hand. Working on a car at the side of a freeway with semi's blowing by is no fun and pawing through stuff in the dark is not the best scenario.
We need to have some way to make sure the last person to leave....is actually with us. I should have waited till Malcolm fired that car up.....that issue was not going away. As we were out of cell phone coverage too, communication was sketchy at best to see where people were at.
Pictures from the day, for you non-locals we followed the mighty Fraser River for a good chunk of the day, fresh snow covering the mountains above us. The pictures do not do it justice, at times it was hard to be a spectator and then toss it into the next corner. As a few of you experienced, there are 3 corners on that road that really did require us to really slow down, they sure get your attention FAST!
That traffic was as light or non-existent as it was, pointed out the tourist's are gone and the only ones heading North were hunters, as the season is opening up in the North, bonus for us.
The comment about the snow tire requirement was not lost on me either, never thought about it ..but...it could be an issue with a grumpy cop. I don't think a felt penned snow flake on our 048's would pass inspection....
Again, it was fun to watch the high speed train behind me as a flowing river of cars.
Sorry if some of the pictures are a bit blurry, my point and shoot is not good in high contrast low light situations.

And final....
The Lake behind the cars is called Seton Lake, it both feeds a power station as it empties into the Fraser River, and, a few thousand feet above it, is another lake called Carpenter Lake. They tunneled through the mountain and feed another power station half way down Seton Lake, where all this power goes to feed Vancouver and environs. The road is crazy steep from Carpenter Lake up over the mountain, then a bizarre plunge to Seton...good brakes are required.

That's it for now, another season done for me, I'm off to Sonoma next week, thanks to all that came out for our drives this past season, we had some good ones. I will be looking at my log book to see how we did this year compared to last.
I have a long family association back to the 70's with the Seton dam and a mystery that drove the locals crazy
with rumor, intrigue and Government conspiracy and ultimately a tragedy. Not many know of the truth and if you like, I would write about it. I know I cannot drive by there and not reflect.

I can imagine it would have been a bit scary driving into those corners and not expecting it if you were not on R compounds. It made me thankful I have the tires I do. Diving into them fast and knowing you have a bunch left in the bank in terms of grip was comforting. If the road turns quicker than you thought it was going to just turn the wheel a bit further and the car just goes where you point it.

WOW, what an awesome day for a drive! Between the road condition, fall colours and lack of law enforcement *wink*, you couldn't have asked for a better one. Unfortunately it didn't start out too good for Malcolm with his head gasket letting go right when we were leaving Hope. DUOH! Byron and I stayed with him until the tow truck came to haul his poor 'ol 510 back to Burnaby.
