OCTOBERFAST 2018

Post by bertvorgon »

It is hard to believe that it is now September, I have been retired for four months now, seems like forever already!

I would like to do 1 more long drive this season and for a variety of reasons want to stay in Canada. As I have been criticized for my crazy early starts, I am going to concede for a much later start, lets say leave from Hope at 7:30 AM., Maybe we can get a few more cars out. Traffic will be minimal and this time of year, all tourists are gone. The Canyon is in good shape so barring anything happening with changing weather, this will be a nice fall cruise.

Our route will be from Hope to Lytton, then, the NEWLY PAVED, BILLIARD BALL SMOOTH section from Lytton to Lillooet, have lunch at the A & W and then return the same way. I really do not want to return Duffy,as that puts us into the Whistler/Iron workers mess that just does not interest me at all and by mid day it just takes one car to hold us up with zip for safe passing areas on the Duffy.

As for dates, I am thinking mid October on, as a few people are away and will try to accommodate all.
We have the weekends of the 13/14, 20/21, & 27/28, weather dependent. Give me a sense of what might work as we head along.

Hope to Lillooet is 172 KM one way, 344 KM round trip back to Hope and Chevron 94. This will be a 500 Km day, so will be a good drive with spectacular views of fall colour.

I'm in all weekends for a drive.
I'm also doing a track day on the 14th of Sept, hoping to get the jetting sorted - otherwise the EFI is going back on.
Looking forward to the cruise on the new surface.

Right now I know I cannot come on the 27/28th weekend. That is my wife's birthday. The 13/14 would be best for me.

What's your wife's name? I will phone her and let her know that that date is flexible, as that COULD be our rain alternate!

Her name is Asha....that would not go over well. She is going to a competition and will not be home. I'm pretty sure she would not like to have the kids along.

Well..ok then. Will the kids fit in your car?

Lets put October 13/14 as our target first attempt. Paul is back from Portugal, as I mentioned the drive to him. Does he have an e-mail?

I may have to bolt their seats down in the back. I'm sure they would totally love 7h in my car.

Leann and I did a drive 4 weeks ago taking the same route for the first part of our trip. Stopping at the park at Seton Lake for lunch break. Then Cache Creek and the canyon home.

Lytton to Lillooet was golden! :!:

99 to Cache Creek had road construtuion just out of Lillooet for a massive section of road that decided it didn't want to hang around anymore. Following a propane tanker truck after that for a bit was fun. With a bomb strapped to his ass he was passing rvs on some questionable sections, definitely knew the road Im sure. After we passed him it was only good up to 67, then traffic was hell, mud slide turning everyone around back into Cache Creek...

I have to take the weekend of the 20/21 off the calendar! I am hoping to be at Sonoma Raceway watching Colin Jackson try for his 5th SCCA championship in a row. Going to blast down I-5, stay with the Specialty gang, then work my way up the coast highway.....can you say epic road trip!

Thanks Rob, I will give him a heads up.

I can't seem to get away from early mornings, heading off to climb Mt. Cheam soon.

See my post on hikes.

Typical with the #1 highway, stupid accidents with insane backup for the long weekend traffic. We missed it all!
