Many of you are blessed with having some fantastic & fun roads not far away, while some of us have to travel further to find that sweet road.
I figured to start a new topic and we can share those roads for the perfect drive.
North Cascades Hwy #20...... I-5 to Winthrop, Wa.. Best twisty's and scenery of all our drives.
Driving from Keokea to Hana on Maui, Hwy 360 & #31, best twisting and diving rolling road with ZERO traffic, at least the few times I have done it. New pavement was fantastic.
So many of our drive routes are now so over-loaded with traffic, I now look at them truly as a scenic cruise, nothing wrong with that, but, for the most part, zipping along at true speed is sketchy at best, with everyone having cell phones. Maybe I'm getting older and have a bit of a been there, done that...and survived mode.

Well if you guys are talking about cool roads anywhere in the world, then I'd recommend going for a ride on the road to Magganari. It is a bit hard to get to though...

Glendora Mountain Road, So Cal. Haven't driven it for years - but it was 30 mins away from me in College. Learned a lot about what a stupid kid in a basically stock 510 can do.

Closer to home, we often drive from Calgary to Kelowna for the May long weekend Knox Mountain hill climb. We leave Thursday to Cranbrook, then do the rest on Friday. Two ferry’s, and nothing but light traffic and fun fun roads all the way to Vernon. Including lunch in Kaslo, if you hit the ferry’s right, its about 6 hours of pure joy.
We take a long circuitous route that does not include Hwy 1, but the best piece of that is Hwy 31A from Kaslo to New Denver. It is in great condition, has very minimal traffic and no towns or population to cause slow downs or traffic sources. It is continuously curvy and fairly high speed. Second favorite part is Hwy 6 starting off the Needles ferry, to about half way to Lumby. Great elevation change, very tight Back and forth w/ cambered sections and switch backs high up, AND the second half is great fun too.
Missing that drive this spring due to Covid was hard. Will have to do it twice next year.
I used to do Knox every year for a long time, but from Edm didn't get to do any choice roads (well along Mara Lake was good eons ago). Our group would meet up at Lena's on arrival. Yup, miss KMHC...

I too missed going to Knox this year, I vested a lot of time and energy for that event. These last years I have still enjoyed saying hi to all my past competitor's and hiking the Hill.
I do hope that it will continue for a few more, the opposition to the Climb has been getting progressively louder over the last few years. It is a big event to organize and sometimes it is hard to re-start after a hiatus.
How we survive Covid this winter will definitely determine whether it, as well as other events, continue.
