DYNO DAY - AUG 25th - Rocket Rally Racing, Squamish
RE: Re: Ready to Go???
Well, I was hoping to try to jump in last minute here to see how much my DD was puttin out at the wheels, but I haven't been able to finish putting my engine back together... Damnit! I guess it'll have to wait for next year... You guys have fun!
RE: Re: Ready to Go???
Well, bring me back a case then Rob please! Bring back any other odd flavours too!
Jason
Eh Guys,
For those attending the Dyno Day:
Keith, Jason, Leonard, Aron and I will be at the Petro-Canada for the 7:30 departure time.
Dimebag, Ray? Cam? Denis? Toby?? and anyone else that makes it out, just leave the station by 9:00 and you'll be in Squamish by 10:15 no worries.
Take a copy of the map if you are unsure where to go.
Hope to see you out. Got the car all washed up tonight, cleaned the windows, and tied down the cooler with 3 dozed pops in the trunk.
See you in the am.

so, no one could find a Petro Canada where Byron said there was one so it all just sort of fell apart.
j/k - the PC was actually an ESSO and it all worked out just fine. I wasn't planning on running my stocker, so Heather and I cruised with the few that met at 9am, hung out for a while and then ran up to Whistler for a couple hours, then got back in time to cruise down.
I'll let someone else tell the good stories, I just wanted to jump in and give Byron a hard time about the gas station.

What a great day at Rocket Ralley, a big thanks to Byron ond everyone there for this one. My friend and club member let me drive his KA24de powered 510 up for the dyno and I followed him there in his Renault Turbo 2, what a treat, thanks Leonard. I've posted pictures at the following link:

Here's us at the first meeting point at the Esso station off the Westview exit of Hwy 1 in North Vancouver.
Here's a teaser Noel's 1300cc stocker.
I won't steal anyone else's thunder and let them post up theirs!
Enjoy

RE: Some pictures and dyno sheets.
My car has a new top speed. 6000rpm in 5th calculates to 145mph.
Keith was that G35 moving or what?!

Jason, thanks for posting all the evidence.
I have 3 words to decsribe the dyno day... LOTS OF FUN
Many reason's
1. Great group of guys to learn from
2. Keith's car and it's POWER... We are not worthy!
3. Seeing Jason having fun with the KA 510
4. Drooling over that Red Audi Coupe
5. Delicious breakfast and Pizza
6. When the decibles of exhaust noise = to your horsepower rating
7. Topping Cam's KA by "just enough" (Maybe Turbo KA next year)
8. Watching Pat and his crew @ Rocket Rally hook up the R5T2 like if it was on a life support system
9. The anticipation of the 1.4 liter renault engine blowing up... thank goodness for the rev limiter.
10. Claiming the "closest to your dyno reading" pool at the very last
dyno run. (Sorry Keith) It was better than any blackjack hand
I ever had at the River rock casino.
11. The drive home with minimum rain.
I had a really good time and I really respect all the other 510 owners and their passion for their cars... you guys are the greatest and
thanks so much for sharing your wealth of knowledge. Thanks to Byron
for setting up such a fun event. I hope to be able to attend more
functions in the future.

It was a good day, the weather held out pretty well for us. Apparently there was a torrential down pour just before we got back into Vancouver – we missed it all together! Whew!!
There were two groups that headed up. The first group consisted of Aron riding shot gun with Keith, myself, Leonard driving his Renault R5, Jason driving Leonard’s KA 4dr and Jamie. We all left the Esso (not Petro Can as I previously stated- sorry!) at 7:30am and headed for Squamish, having breakfast just around the corner from Rocket Racing. Noel Koehn joined us for breakfast. The second group composed of John (and new family), Ben and Sarah, Denis and Cam who arrived at Rocket just before we did around 10:30. Richard dropped by later in the afternoon for a while, took so photos of the last cars to run the dyno.
Both drives were fairly uneventful. The highlight fro me on the way up was definitely when an Audi Quattro (of about the same rally vintage as Leonard’s R5) pulled into our little group – it was just good to see the two cars together!
The new highway towards Whistler is progressing; it’ll be a nice rolling highway when it’s done…
The current destruction zones were passable, but I sure wouldn’t want to hit those construction zones at speed. Delays for our first group were minimal.
So we had nine cars in total running on the dyno. The results are:
Noel Koehn L13, 3 on the tree manual – 4dr sdn – 55 HP
Andrew Jennings - L20B 4dr sdn – 73 HP
Cam Bonner – KA24DE wagon – 136 HP
Leonard Jang – KA24DE 4dr sdn (Driven to the event by Jason) - 136.9 HP
Byron Meston – LZ22 EFI 2dr sdn (The Bronze) – 138 HP
Leonard Jang – Renault R5 Turbo 1400cc 2dr hatch (Uber cool!) – 163 HP
Ben Shiner - SR20DET 2dr sdn – 173 HP
Denis Gagne – VG30E wagon – 185HP
Jamie Mitchell – LZ22 carb 2dr sdn – 201 HP
Keith Law – L20B turbo 2dr sdn – 248 HP
Noel car probably the only three on the tree that has even been on a dyno, or at least Pat’s dyno; for now and probably for ever!!
It was a good day for all. Thanks to everyone who turned out.
If there’s a need next year, I’ll organize another dyno event. For myself, I think it’ll be a couple years before my car needs to go back on the dyno. I was a bit surprised at what little my car gained for all the mods I’ve done over the winter – I guess it show’s a need for improvement.
