VQ35DE swap

Post by YellowVG30 »

Since right now i have a VG30, could it be done? Instead of box go to rack and pinion. I was just thinkin about it since a it is all aluminum, and b it puts out 287hp without any mods. It just sounded like a good canidate for a 510, since even with the v6 in my car i have plenty of room...

It's a really nice engine and lengthwise it's not much bigger then the VG, but it is TALL, there has been talk on the Z forums and it is just way to tall to fit without cutting the hood, and lowering the X member.

Only the 350z VQ has 287hp, g35 coupe has 280hp, g35 sedan has 260hp, and other ones differ too. Just in case you didn't know.

I don't see an engine in that picture - I just see a bunch of frosted kernelators, gonk modulators, and general useless factory shit in the way of a perfectly good engine...

I think Dave Lum and his FIAT V-Spec (datsuns.com) has competition!

What ever happened to Dave Lum's SR20 that he was going to put in the 1200?

510rob, no kidding... Atleast the intake runners are nice and long. What ever happened to the KISS method? I bet if any of the hoozywink or doodad modulators go bad, the whole thing stops working. I'd figure:
Take that motor + (add)Decent Computer -(minus)75% of the vacuumlines and crap =more efficient, cheaper motor.

Having a photo of the engine sitting in an engine bay doesn't mean much. There's nothing to suggest it wasn't just plunked in there "just to see", and then those photos shared.

Dave sold that motor and turbos to someone -- don't know who. I think his 1200 would have been cooler than his 510 is now, but they aren't my projects.

I'm really impressed that there's enough room for the DOHC between the strut towers. I was under the impression that the conversion to A-arms was NECESSARY to swap in a vg30DETT (that is externally dimentionally the same as the VQ, right? Maybe the VQ has a bit higher deck height to accomidate the extra displacement, but it should be close) There even looks to be enough room for exhaust manifolds. As for too tall, who ever said a 510 needed a hood?

Paul at datsuns.com fiat spec-v has a vg30dett with struts still intact so you dont really need to cut them at all. Also since a steering rack is the next step for my car, headers would be very nice..
