510 SSS SUs. I see only two mounting flanges per carb body, Roadster stuff should have four.merlin wrote:r16 roadster or 510sss ... is the opening 38mm?
From the picture, it looks like you have the wrong float bowl indexers. The float bowls should be parallel with the ground.

Re: identify these su's
yes - they are available. You can get stubbies that will fit in your filters - it radiuses the throat at the carb for better flow.

You can also get something like this
http://www.englishparts.com/products/AI ... 2-970.html
Those carbs are 1 1/2" (HS-4) - a lot of english cars came with the same type, and gaskets, filters and air horns will work. Check sites for mini's etc.

Finished is better than perfect......
Re: identify these su's
They are std 38mm hitachi
definatly not SUs.
We have many of those carbs sets, they are late 510 or early 610sss.
note the jet tube adjusters & the float bowls.
If I had to bet I would go for the 72 610SSS

Re: identify these su's
I believe the Hitachi is a copy of the british SU - with minor differences of course. A lot of the parts do work between. I was looking at my neighbor's MGB - its amazing how identical they are....

They licensed the design, then improved upon it, as the Japanese were wont to do at the time.James wrote:I believe the Hitachi is a copy of the british SU - with minor differences of course. Re: identify these su's
I believe those are 510 sss carbs also, I have a set of these i'm adapting to an 86 honda accord hatchback right now, hard to tell in the picture but they look like the flat tops. very unique carbs. it's amazing how much that engine looks like my old iron 2.0 in the accord, except mine is tilted forward since it's front wheel drive, almost the exact same angle. if you get more pictures please post them,i want to see how they set up some items on the manifold factory. I notice they ran dual choke cables also,i solved this problem with a cable balancer on the front of the manifold, sliding bar pulls both short cables from the carbs, then one cable pulls the bar. i'm using an aluminum aircraft push to lock control, very precise control and it will stay where you put it until you push the button and slide it.
