speedometer hook up on a KA
i have a KA24E with the 5spd. they guy that did the swap never hooked up the speedo. can someone give me a link or some info on what needs to be done to get that to work?
i plan on going all auto meter but not for awhile.
and i know i should search harder and im not going to sit here and say i searched for days cause i didnt
so any help to point me in the right direction would be great.

Do you have a speedometer cable? Do you have the speedo sensor screwed into the side of the gear box? If you do, take one and attach it to the other. Your speed probably wont be accurate, but I used one of those roadside "your speed" signs to figure out how far off mine is.

As far as I know yes. I have a KA box on my FJ20, I can't remember whether I pulled the sender out of my old ZX box or screwed it straight into what was there on the KA, but with the exception of the speed reading 10 mph faster than what I'm doing, it works.Ryan@CiNcity wrote:will that work? the stock cable is mech. and from what i can tell the KA one is elec.

300zx speed sensor fits the KA tranny. Hook that up to the stock speedo with the stock cable and you're good to go. Mine is a few mph off from being 100% accurate, but it gives me an idea of how fast I'm going, definitely.

Is the stock cable long enough to work with a KA transmission? Is it the 620 version that works and is slightly longer? My stock speedo/tach should be here tomorrow

Beyond that, AutoMeter makes mechanical and electronic speedos. You can run the electronic speedo from your VSS, no need to switch/buy parts you won't need.

If it's got duct tape it's damaged, and water/dirt gets in there = rust. The cable is a wound spring and it sticks and breaks loose suddenly and kicks the needle making it jump.
When you get it running smoothly determine if the car is running faster or slower than the speedo says. If it is really going faster than what the speedo says a smaller toothed cog can be installed in the speedo pinion right where the cable screws on to the tailstock. You will need to know if you have an '80 and later tranny or not and what number of teeth are on the cog you have in there now.
