dgv to dgav
dgv to dgav
I've been reading different posts and here is my question. My 73 currently has a 32/36 dgv but the manual choke cable is missing or broken. The linkage is also loose and worn pretty badly and the primary is very loose as well. Does this sound like a good candidate for a replacement instead of a repair? Also from what I'm seeing I should be able to put on a dgav and have the auto choke instead right? Will I need any misc parts for that? Many thanks!
Is my dime pretty rough? yep Could it use an owner with a little more mechanical expertise? yeah probably. Does it look like every other beige sedan in the parking lot? No sir it doesnt.

Re: dgv to dgav
If you can get a new one (not somebody else's problem ridden, hey a friend just re-built it, POS carb from F-Bay) that would be the way to go. Weber does sell a bushing kit to correct the loose/leaky primary.

Re: dgv to dgav
A DGAV is a water heated based choke system.
I have one also but the water spout was removed and a manual cover cap from the local parts store was installed.
Its bit of a hooky hook up but it works when I was running it. I found a DGV 5A(manual) which Iam using now.
PS If your running a L20B or a U67 head on a L motor they will tend to have diesiling proplems(run on)
those have the fuel cutoff selinoid
72 73s 510s have the eleltric choke wire
the 32/36 DGEV-IC is the set up. (eleltric choke/idle cutoff)
ck out webercarbsdirect.com and look close at the carbs.

Re: dgv to dgav
Thanks guys.
Yes I do have the dieseling issue. I turned the idle down and it will stop. I hopefully will have time to mess/fix some more this weekend. It's too cold and the garage has too much crap in it.
So I have a 73 so I should have an electric choke wire somewhere it's just that they put on a manual carb?
The 32/36 DGEV-IC is the set up you recommend is what your saying?
Heading back to weber to look some more.

This one right?

I may go ahead and get a choke cable and mess with mine some more first. I haven't really hammered all the things out that I could try. I REALLY need the choke as it's still freezing here.

Thanks Keith! I've actually been talking back and forth with jim a bit. I'm really thinking about ordering that 32/36 DGEV-IC. The wifey says whatever it takes so that she can have her car all to herself again so this is a perfect time to order it.

I must admit that if you can, buy a new carb! Your whole engine and it's drivability revolves around the carburettor.
Nothing worse than a poor idle and transition to the main circuit(s). Some Webers never got maintained by the previous owners(s), so the booster venturis are rattling around, never giving a good, crisp signal.

Re: dgv to dgav
I havd a L16 with stock pistons then later installed flatt using that U67 head and it desieled all the time.
Its the later Open chambers heads that do this.
Datsun installed idle cutoffs on the later stock Hitachi carbs carbs to prvent this from Happening.
Ill tell you from My experience(Datsun 521 w/elctric choke wire) that even on a hot day with regular on that L16/U67 head it will still diesel abit.
Nothing wrong runniing a manul DGV just you might have the run on issues.
Persoanlly I prefer the manul DGV anyways.
If you do get the 32/36 DGEV-IC just find the 12volt volt back by the wipermotor area some where or look in a Haynes manual FIRST before ordering.
On the choke hook up I get a female connector on put 2 wire in there, hoook it up to the choke connection. one will go to the seliniod the other to the choke 12v Or maybe 12volt from the car.
