What tire should I run?

Post by Wicked Saint » 20 Apr 2009 19:04

I have been reading over posts but couldn't parse out a definitive answer. I just purchased some Rota RB's in 15X7 +25 and now I need to wrap some rubber around them. I need to know what size I can run without worry of rubbing. Some people say 205/50 should work but I'd like some input from those in the know. Thanks in advance.

Please let us know how they fit. I'm looking at those vs the +12 myself. Also, stock or zx struts?

why you pick 205s??????????????
its very close on stock struts. about .200thous gap from hitting the strut.
I think 205 might hit the strut. I woudld have started with 195 at least up front.
But Nexen(Korean 60$) and Nitto (120$)make a 195/45/15 tire.

I have some ROTAs also but not mounted.
A guy in Norway bought some 15x7 and say his 195/50 Proxes fit OK but its close.

let me/us know whats the outcome.
If anything change the order to 195 up front.

I guess you can run spacers but seem like the ROTAs dont want to much of a spacer otherwise the Acron lug loose alot of thread hold.

I have some Rotas +25mm but not tires mounted on there as I am wondering myself. But did put the rim on a stuck strut and its about .200 thou. So I think a 195 or a 195/45 series will stretch it even with the edge of the rim so its FLUSH.
I purchase +25 mm based on the guy from Norway and photos of his wheels fitted to the car.

The OP gave no information about his suspension setup, unfortunately. It makes all the difference, which is why "definitive" answers are impossible.

Currently original suspension. I just picked it up and plan on changing it up but not sure to what. the 2 options I see making sense currently are tokico's with 1.6in drop springs or a ground control set-up. Last time I owned a dime I didn't change anything from stock so consider me a noob as far as how to proceed. Thank you all for the input and when I get the tires mounted I will let you know how they fit.

You should have planned it out better. If you change to the 280ZX front brakes/struts (the most common upgrade), your wheels won't fit. You'll either have to go the spacers/longer studs/different thread route, or the Z31 hub swap, which in itself involves a bunch of work.

Lots of real-world setups in the Suspension sticky.

A little update, the rear fit beautifully, the front however was a tad bloated. a 1/4in. spacer cleared that right up. I may need to roll the fender still but we shall see. For anybody else looking into these wheel I would say put a 195/50/15 up front and save yourself some hassle.

How do your rears fit? Do you have any space for more inboard positioning?

I just used the good old eyeball and a bit of a feel around but it was close, I will look at it in the light tomorrow and see how much more room I could squeeze out of it. My brother in-law is a machinist so I will get him to measure it so I don't use terms like "a bit" or " tight fit" :)
