While removing my damaged '68 taillight panel I noticed the the two top corners where it blends into the fender edges were brazed to the fender, just there, on both sides only at the top.
Is this stock? Or was this panel replaced?
The rest was spot welded.Question about R&R of tailight panels

Re: Question about R&R of tailight panels
I've found brazing in several spots on 68's .... i'd say stock.

Brazed, or leaded? There are a lot of spots that are leaded from the factory. For example, the corners of the windshield pillars where they meet the roof panel and fenders.

I wonder if they changed that in later years?

This wasn't filler, it was mechanically holding it together.thisismatt wrote:Brazed, or leaded? There are a lot of spots that are leaded from the factory. For example, the corners of the windshield pillars where they meet the roof panel and fenders.

Leaded joints - yes; the A and C pillars had leaded joints from the factory where each respective post met the belt line of the car.thisismatt wrote:Brazed, or leaded? But not braised; I would assume that there had been a repair in the area at some point in the cars past. I've stripped a lot of 510's (of paint) over the years, and braising was only found in cars that had been obviously repaired or modified. Back in the 70’s where most body shops had yet to update their equipment (and were very slow to learn proper methods and understanding about unit body repairs) or by a back yard deal in which lack of craftsmanship in the repair is usually easily identified. I'm sure if you look close, you'll find some sort of damage in an area with brazing. By the time the 510's were rolling down the then brand new style assembly lines at Nissan, brazing was a thing of the past. Nearly everything was spot welded due to its fast technique in a highly mechanized (for it’s time) and fairly automated system in which 510's were built.
