Jammin a 510 full o ponies

Post by foamy » 14 Dec 2005 15:34

Hey guys

I am on a major hunt for ANY articles, pictures, web sites etc. for a small block Ford swap on a 510. Anything at all would be greatly appreciated, as I have found absolutely nothing.

Thanx

All I know is that it has been done before. But it usually a very rare swap. All I could recomend is going to the dime quarterly and subscribing to the mailing list and posting this question there. A very wide range of extremely knowlegable 510 owners there. They would most likely be able to point you some where.

I hope its gunna be a drag car cuz I dont think it'll handle nearly as good. I've seen a ford racing crate 350 motor in a 510. He cut out the firewall and the tranny tunnel and made a custom crossmember. And another thing is the diff might not handle the torque. Thats what'll kill the diff is the torque. This guy also swapped a corvette rearend which is pretty cool but I dunno how he managed that.

Why not do an sr? Or another 4 cylender turbo, then it would be fast and still handle, but the r200 would hold up the the power. 510' are about the worste rear wheel drive drag car there is. Your going to need a bigger gas tank to. That's one compaint I heard about the v8 conversion's. You should put the v8 in a pinto and save the 510 for a more worthy project.

^^^agreed, but to each his own. i really don't see any positives of a V8 swap, but if thats what you want, go for it. it's a really rare swap, and i dont think i've ever even seen a write up for one. good luck

My buddy has a 620 pick up with a 350. Its a hack job and the gas milage is horrible. Fun truck though.

Try the rover aluminum 215 cu v8, lighter than the 4 cyl, distributor up front, and because it's light you wouldn't have to cut the firewall to get the weight back.

A guy named Matt Guzzetta has a long time 5.0 powered 510. He used to have a webpage about it but I can't seem to find it now. Here's a brief blurb from the DQ here:

As I recall, the car had major firewall reconstruction and he used a Corvette rear end.

I wouldn`t be concerned about putting a Corvette rear suspension in a 510.My setup uses the R200 with a NISMO LSD and has survived numerous drag launches on slicks with over 500rwh and 490fpt.IMO a V8 in a 510 would be kinda cool, but it would be so much easier in a 240/260/280z car.The car I started with was less than perfect as I would not have started carving on a perfect or even a pretty nice 510.

The problem I see besides gas price's is getting traction without ton's of body mod's. If it's a nice car you should leave it and at least find a shitty sheel to chop up. It's not my car though. What ever you end up doing good luck.
