Yes, get a speedo drive/pinion from a 280Zx and install it in the KA trans.

Also Z31 drive pinion will fit in a KA24E 5 speed.
Not sure if the DE/E transmissions are the same though.
510 cable works in Z31 drive.

DE and the D are close enough if they aren't the same transmission

as far as I know the ka-e and ka-de transmissions are identical in with the exeption of the 95 ka-de and later having the crank angle sensor on the bellhousing but they are interchangeable just drill hole for the sensor

Problem is that the stock 510 speedo cable is just not quite long enough to reach back and around to where the speed sensor would be attached. I beleive you either need to find a speedo cable from a 510 with an auto trans or an cable equivalant to that length.

You don't need to. It's only for OBD-II compliance.kayakdude07 wrote: where am i supposed to drill the hole for the sensor to go?
Otherwise, top center of the bellhousing flange, you'll want the sensor to be reading against the teeth of the flywheel.

Any speedo drive cog from an '80s and later FS5W71B or early FS5W71C D-21 truck will fit where the speed sensor is now. Just remove and replace. Pre '80s cogs won't fit properly. The cogs come in diffwerent ratios depending on tire and rear axle ratio but anything will get you going.

ok. so i went to the junkyard a couple days ago and found a 300zx from aug/87. it had a vg30e and 5 spd. underneath was an electrical speed sensor just like my s13 ka tranny has. Is there something else I'm missing?

Yes you missed this:
The speed sensor showed up on late '80s cars. The 240sx had them but the 200sx did not.datzenmike wrote:Any speedo drive cog from an '80s and later FS5W71B or early FS5W71C D-21 truck will fit where the speed sensor is now.
