V-bands are the way to go, we use a very similar clamp on aircraft bleed-air systems, there can be no leaks as the air temps can get up to 1000 degrees....maybe more....it makes for a very easy to remove system too.

I was actually thinking of such a thing when the guy was making the slip fit for my car....I didnt know that these existed. Oh well, I'll order one up and go back to the exhaust shop, thanks.

Yea, mesojdm gave me the website he ordered them from, that's the place I got them too, seems like they were about 35 bucks a set. comes with both weld-on flanges and the clamp. They are stainless too. I think there is a pic in my build thread of everything I ordered for my exhaust system. So far they are holding up well, no leaks yet!!

I was experiencing a little stumble on throttle at low rpms, I was going to change the setting on the pump rod under the Mikuni carb bodies, and what did I see but one of the cotter pins that holds the push rod in place on the pump lever was missing. DOH! I don't know for how long it was missing, but if anyone is having stumble problems be sure to check it. I got a temporary pin in while I ordered another set from Rebello, and changed the setting from "lean" to the center hole. It smoothed out the whole acceleration allot, I still think I need to increase my pump jet from a 45 to a 50 or 55 though as there is still a slight hesitation.

i am working on a FJ20 and have run into the issue with the distributor cap and the side drafts. Need your help, can you share information on how you got the tone wheel on the harmonic balancer.

Hi, congratulations for your project that has been an useful guide to mine.
This Mazda ratchet style chain tensioner, can you please help with more details such as Mazda donor model, part number or anything that can help me to go to a Mazda dealer and ask for it? As I am in Portugal, it will be easier for me to buy it here, but I don´t know what to ask for.
Thank you.
Cheers,
Rui

I made this video a couple years ago before final tuning, but here it is anyway:

It's been a long time, but I think it's time for an upgrade. I have a leaking head gasket out the seal of the front cover, I just got a new Cometic gasket and ARP head studs, but while I was at the change, I thought I might address a new induction system. As someone who has only ever had early 70's vehicles, I have never had or worked on an EFI system so I am starting from base 1.

This is all I have to start with, I have already talked with Jeff (Icehouse) about Megasquirt which at this point is the direction I am heading but I don't have an operable throttle body (missing linkage and it looks old), the butterfly is 55mm and the bolt spacing at 60mm. Is there one I should be looking at? I have seen FJ and Z guys using a Ford XF TB but have found little info on them.
Also, I dont have the mounts for the fuel injectors, is there anything to them, can I machine them from aluminum?
And finally all of the bolt on bits on the mani itself. With a stand alone system like Megasquirt, can I just make some block off plates?

Hi John

The TB in that pic looks like a standard item. The reason most people put the XF TB here is that they are fairly
cheap and can flow more air than the standard TB.
In my opinion this is only needed when coupled with a large Turbo.
I am still running the factory TB with close to 400whp
The manifold needs to modified to get the XF TB to fit.
They usually cut the flange and change the angle to give more clearance away from
the top radiator hose.

If running an aftermarket ECU you can blank those bits.
The injector in that pic is Not the standard item. It will need
a new fuel rail to suit. The standard injectors are hose tail type
not O-ring at the top. On mine, only the Fuel rail holds
the injectors in place.

Good luck with it all.

Peter

A) I would look at the throttle body from a Z31 300ZX - it might bolt up w/o any mods. Make sure it has a rheostat for its throttle position sensor (TPS) as opposed to a switch. Another really popular throttle body for swaps is the KA24E or KA24DE unit (240SX, Villager minivans, whatever else...); these are 60mm, which is more than big enough and have a minimum of excess/unnecessary crap on them.

B) all of the small bits related to mounting the injectors are the same as what was used on a 280Z/ZX from the same time period

C) the only sensor that MS would need to add to the manifold is an intake air temp sensor - typically a GM/Delphi unit with 3/8NPT mounting. The Manifold air pressure sensor needs a small vacuum hose connection to the intake manifold.

John, if you can't find a stock rail, you could make a similar fuel rail to what Byron made for his Bronze car

I have a set of still-factory-sealed Bosch 0.280.150.007 injectors that I'll never use; I'll give you a deal if you are interested (or trade?). These are the same injectors that Byron is using in his N/A 2.2L engine, and the same ones that Jeff is using in his "gobstopper" car (mild turbo L20B)
