How about this - where can you buy COMPLETE SU KITS for L-Series engines? If you guys have a machine shop up there in BC-Land, you should see about getting a place to manufacture a few SU Kits for us peeps that don't deal well with mechanical crap!

I get a lot of flak about linkage.. sure, you have the carb, everything BUT THE LINKAGE... so where's a kit? ;)

I have no clue about the choke iLL510, but that'd be my BEST guess... which isn't that good. Please consult the pro's!

everything you wanted to know about filters...

As far as I remember, SUs had a twin cable for the chokes.

Here is an email I've saved for many reasons - you'll see why when you read it.

Ted-

The 38mm and 240Z individual filters are different due to the air port hole spacing. Wix makes individual can filters for the 38mm carbs, part number 2175, they come two per box, ~$12 for the pair. NAPA can get these. Wix has discontinued the larger 240Z version of this filter (2176 Obsolete).

Below is an old post from Mark Sayer that covers the K&N details very well.

Here are the part numbers for all the K&N filters for SU's (and some

England and differ from the US made ones generally available. They are

made from stainless steel rather than chromed steel and their sizes and

designs are also different. The English K&N's are available through APT

APT can be reached at 1-800-278-3278 they are also the place that is

selling the billet air horns for the SU's that I designed (wish they

would have paid me for the designs) :-(

The English K&N's are much better quality than the American ones. The

American ones have problems with the chrome flaking off (I know of one

engine that "ate it" by eating the chrome) plus they often will not take

the horns or if they do they require modification. You need horns inside

the filter so this is significant. If the filter uses the same two bolts

to attach the top cover to the base plate as it uses to mount the base

plate to the carb, then the hrons will not fit, at least not without

some modifications.

After all that I realized I left out a few things :-)

You can also get "blank" filters, that is filters without any cutouts in

the baseplate. This allows you to alter the location of the filter. It

is a major pain to cut out the baseplate but if you want or need to do

this you can. The part numbers are:

Part number Size

SD-318B 5.875"x1.75"

SD-319 6"x3.25"

SP6290 - flat panel airbox type

You can also buy most of the English K&N components separately, ie

baseplate, top, spacers, element, etc.

The choke cable from a 240z can easily be made to work on the su's in a 510. It is one lever and 2 cables. I just had to make a bracket to mount the lever under the dash.
