Was refered to a KA24 gearbox to bolt on to my FJ20, trying to figure out what this guy has, all he says is that it's from a"2 door" and he doesnt have a picture. From what I can tell from the web, CA18's were only until '89, then it could be from an SR or KA? Ermish said that the KA box would fit in the 510 w/ minimal mods, so that's what I am going for...

If it's North American, it should be either a KA24E or KA24DE . It's an S13 240SX (1989-1994).

These are the only pics of the tranny I have right now... not sure if it would help:

One more thing... if it's the one for $300 (or more...) it's not really a "DEAL" other then it has low mileage. Look on Car-part.com and you can get one from a scrap yard for $300 in Cali....and down to $100 elsewhere.

I bought that entire car in the picture (no doors, fenders or interior, complete other then that) for $100

Being in Cali, there should be a TON of SR swaps done near you, so the tranny should be easy to find.

Yeah, that's the one, I was going to offer him $200 if it's the right box, just because it saves me cruising the wrecking yards. Hey is sending me a pic today which I will post.

Try calling local tuner shops to find a deal. They just might have KA trannies from SR swaps laying around.

My friend Gwan has a guy who does nothing but SR swaps in El Monte. He knows he has a number of them laying around, but unfortuately he's out of town until late next week. I guess I will hold off on making the motor mounts until then, I want to make sure i have the orientation just right.

What the deal with drive shaft mods? Do I need to get the shaft with the box? (no puns please)
Will it require shortening, mods to my Dave Carroll ZX tranny mount etc?

Actually it's a KA24E... it's a SOHC, not DOHC :D

I'm 99% that the only major difference is the head, and oil squirters.

Not sure about the shafts... and both my 510 shaft and 240 shaft are 1/2 hour away. I'd assume you'd have to shorten it... so I'd assume you'd want a shaft.

Awesome I live right next to El Monte. What is this place you talk of? Is Gwan on this forum?

I have no idea wha you will have to do about the length of the driveshaft...but if it was already shortened for a 280 box then you could be in the ballpark. What I do know is that the only thing that you have to do for the tranny side of the driveshaft to work is to cut off the dust sheild so that the shaft will slide all the way into the transmission...wow, this post could be full of good puns.

That was my next question, actually one of two.
So the splined input of the ZX shaft will fit the KA box with the above mentioned mod? Confirmation on this?
and two:
What type of shifter lever do the KA boxes use? there's one on Craigaslist, but is w/out shifter or tailshaft.
....oh yeah, and three:
What about clutch slave cylinder, current ZX one okay?
Okay...four
Dave Carroll ZX crossmember mods? differant isolator mount?

So this is the pic he sent me, all I can say from it is that it looks clean. I asked him to send me more where I can actually SEE the whole box.
But from this cryptic photo, can anyone say SR or KA?
