Man, did I totally miss part of your build?
I just went back through the thread to page 14 where you have a stock PL510 rear suspension and some mention of coil over fitment issues. But what diff and rear suspension am I looking at now in these latest photos?
Any comments on the upgrade and the reason for it?

Byron

Thanks! I didn't do too much bracing in the car, but I have added a rear strut brace (mountings welded to the struts, also seemed welded the rear struts to add some strength) and will added a bolt on strut brace up front. I think that will be fine for a street car - maybe occasional track day

Thanks Mate! I've got 5 minutes to response to my thread. It's Australia Day here - public holiday - Mum and the little ones are currently catching up on some sleep and its too hot to be outside working on Datsun stuff - 40C!

Hi Byron, your right I have skipped over the rear end setup, sorry about. Pretty standard upgrades:

- Datsport rear cross member
- Notched trailing arms
- R31 rear brakes
- Subi STI R180, 3.9 clutch LSD
- T3 coil overs (which were meant to be new, but are in fact the old ground control versions) - I might have to consider something else in this area.

Been working away steadily on the car. All the small projects you need to do along the way. Vinegar and bolts. Trying to use original equipment where ever feasible.

Also managed to get a FREEBIE 1600. I fact I owned this car about 18 months ago. Current owner had no need for it, so I pick it up.

Then Aaron one of the local 1600/510 owners had an idea. Given the shell was well and truly stuffed Aaron attacked it with several cutting discs. Then went through the shed mocking up some additional parts.

Would make a good wall hanger for sure.

And if you ever need a rad support, you know where it is :-)

Exactly what's happening with it Byron. Aaron is going to use a motorcycle battery and hook up the lights indicators too!

Myself and Aaron and Blair started up a Facebook page for Datsun 1600/510's in our local area. We made the criteria very specific, Must currently own a Datsun 1600/510 (doesn't necessarily have to be running) and live in Perth WA. We wanted to avoid the noise of people that typically join these groups. Only have 30 odd members but we know there is more people yet to join. We had our first outing recently. We had 6 cars turn up and 5 that continued onto the cruz. That is excluding myself as I have taken the brown car off the road, but more on that later!@

I think the temperature was around 38C on the day, lots of people out and about enjoying the hot weather. The gents on the cruz packed to suit the conditions :). lots of coolant, tools and spare parts just in case.

It was I pretty hot day, good for testing everyone's cooling systems :) . I was riding along in Blair's FJ car. It's actually the first time I've been in a FJ - turbo'd car very cool. The engine noise is more similar to a RB engine opposed to an SR. Looks like I'll be be joining the FJ club some time in the future, but non turbo and not for the 2 door.

Total distance on the route wasn't all that far maybe 40km's at most. We took the coast run all the way so plenty of traffic and low speed zones.
