My Coupe Project, back to the future.....
Re: My Coupe Project, back to the future.....
Damn rich, you get all the cool stuff! Nice score with the e30, I have a buddy that is a BMW tech that has two of them. One we cut into a truck and put a diesel from a 5 series in it, pretty fun rig.

I'd love to see photos of the E30 truck. I saw one in Europe made out of an E30 wagon - looked great I thought.q-tip wrote:Damn rich, you get all the cool stuff! Definitely post pics.

Hell yea, I'd like to see some pics of that too!
Re: My Coupe Project, back to the future.....
I worked on the shop floor the last two days, got it all cleaned out and started trying to remove the old paint that was flaking off. I tried scraping it, didn't work, then I tried blasting it, that works ok but runs the shit out of my compressor.....so I stopped that and used some chemical stripper, that was a slow and dirty process....but I got most of it off. I etched it tonight and tomorrow I'll paint it.

Cool shot with the sun set in the back ground Rich.
Looks good, I look forward to hearing how it wears.
I have to admit my experience with floor coverings at work has not been a very positive one.

I feel your pain, I used a chemical stripper for the concrete floors in my loft in California, the clean up was like the Exxon Valdez spill, ruined at least one pair of boots.

Time to fireproof those walls Rich, you are scaring me with all that raw lumber! Wait a minute, you said you might raise the roof! I get it, I'll shutup now!
The floor is gorgeous!

Oh yea, roof is going up about 3 or 4 feet, then I'll insulate and drywall. going to connect the garage and shop once the roof is raised. Basically going to extend the garage roof over to the shop, then frame up the front and rear walls, our in some concrete and should end up with a decent sized work space.
I too and curious to see how it wears.....I'm sure it won't last too long, but with a top coat of clear it should last a lot longer. That went on today and it looks much better.

Eh Rich - if you have a chance I'm still really curious about the E30 pick up
Shop floor looks awesome. I am still debating what I will do. I am thinking I will simply put the money into a polished floor up front, then a sealer. I don’t know if that’s my best bet or what. I just want it flat so that I can easily sweep and keep it clean. I’ll be making this decision very soon and I’m sure a floor will be poured within weeks.

I would go with the polished and sealed floor.....it would be really clean.

Re: My Coupe Project, back to the future.....
I think you guys are right. In high school I worked at a Chevron station from the fifties that had a polished floor in the service bays. We WASHED that floor with mop and soapy water every closing and it was perfect! I loved that floor for working on the cars.goichi1 wrote:I would go with the polished and sealed floor.....it would be really clean.

What an intriguing project that thing is. Cool.
Re: My Coupe Project, back to the future.....
Cool. The lights on the roof take away from the fact that it's just a bit short in the wheel base behind the “cab”... cool. I have seen a couple photos of 5 series wagons being turned into trucks, and they look perfectly proportional. But I do like this. Thanks for posting the photos.
