Decided to dissasemble my car in the next few months. I am going to do a full re-spray in the same orange. I just want it to be perfect :)

Is it a bitch to remove the front and rear windshield? Also I need the line on the best windshield rubber for front and back.

Thanks

If you have new rubber to replace your windshield the removal is easy, if you are planning to re-use the old rubber, it's a real PITA. I reused the rubber in mine because the Coupe rubber is like gold, so I had to tuck the inner lip of rubber back under the metal window frame, I started in the middle top and worked both directions equally....a few inches at a time, then once you start down the sides, it comes right out. very hard on your fingers....but if you have new rubber, just cut the old rubber and push the window out.

If your existing rubber is good, you can always tuck some 3/8" rope between the seal and the body to separate the two, then tape the seal so paint can get in behind it..

Can you tell us now what the secret car was you almost sold this car to buy?

The best windshield gaskets are NOS. All the aftermarket stuff is of variable quality. It's very common that people crack their windshields when attempting to remove the glass and save the seal; strangely the rear glass is much stronger.

I have a line on front and rear NOS seals. I wouldn't even consider aftermarket.

The car I was going to get was Miss Dottie of course :)

That's quite a change in 510 ownership. I'm surprised, given the modified state of your car (and the Bimmer), that you'd consider something so close to bone-stock.

When you denied the Hakosuka Skyline, I figured it had to be a Ken and Mary Skyline...

No I still plan on having one of each of those one day :)

I have always wanted Miss Dottie. And unfortunately for the purists, I would have done a full build and would drive it. I would have kept the body stock and the interior mostly stock. I just would have re-created my car. Miss Dottie is my favorite 510 color. I am anal as hell and want a near perfect car to start with.

Not that my car isn't in incredible shape all around. I would just have preferred to start with an original damn near perfect car so I knew everything had been done spot on.

Even talk of modifying Miss Dottie may be grounds for being banned you know, might want to keep talk like that in a smaller font from now on.

I had the great opportunity to meet the owner and actually got to ride in Ms. Dottie, it's a really tight little car. Very nice and has a really nice owner too. I really want that car too, but just can't get it right now. Not sure I would sell my car for it, but it is one that I would really want to buy if I did sell my car.
