Swift springs

Post by clean71 »

I’ve been doing some research on swift springs ... my car consists of koni yellows , ground control camber plates , ground control coil overs , 280zx struts . Susp technics Sway bars . T3 bump steer spacers . Want to run 2.5 Id / 8in tall 500 lb springs all around ( swift springs ) any thoughts or comments on switching to swift springs ?

500 up front would be an extreme to say the least. Most of us on the coast run 300/inch/lbs up front and anywhere from 900 to 1,200 at the rear, as the spring is inboard from the wheel.

The most we ran was 350 up front for true road racing.

I run 300# in my 280ZX struts, but, you need to understand what the shock does too.

500 at the rear would be soft, but, depends on what you want for a ride and how well the shocks control things.

Read through the suspension settings thread, you will learn a lot about what people are running and why.

I assume that would be cool over in the rear correct? Are your shocks the koni 8610's or the sports? The highest rate I have ever heard of on a road car is 375lb/in. I went from 200lb to 300lb and it totally changed my car. At 500lb you would have no suspension movement at all except for the hardest of bumps.
If no one from the future comes back to stop you from doing it then how bad of a decision can it really be?

My understanding is that Swift use a proprietary spring steel alloy that allows for thinner wire diameter for a given spring rate, so they provide marginally more travel before stacking solid. This can be significant if running short 8" springs on a 510. I changed from 8" Eibach to Swift and noticed an improvement in travel, this with stock length 280ZX struts. If you don't want to go to the expense of shortening the strut for more travel, the Swift springs will buy you a little more travel. Otherwise, pound for pound the Swift springs will be lighter, perhaps significant on a Formula car, maybe not so much on a 510...
