Part identifier steering knuckle

Post by eastbaysolo_73 »

Guys I need a little help here with identifying this steering part. Sorry if the name on the subject line is incorrect. I'm not sure what its actually called. Im upgrading my front suspension to T3 GTX2. As I was taking things apart to make the conversion, the first thing I noticed was the steering part in question which I had a machine shop drill out to 5/8. The hole they drilled was not straight. How I didn't notice it before is beyond me. Anyhow, I bought another set from Ebay. Well I finally received them and they are different. Here's some side by side photos. Not sure if the one that was on my car is correct or if the one I received is to a different car. The one that came on my car is obviously the powder coated one.

The steering knuckle on the left is from the later model years. 70-73 if I am not mistaken.

So both of these steering knuckles I have, each have a 14mm ball joint hole. From my research and understanding, the early model 68-69 knuckles have a 11mm ball joint hole while the 70-73 have a 14mm ball joint hole. Icehouse gave me thread that discussed different knuckles. However none of the knuckles on that pages part numbers matched mine. I did find another thread with in my search today that showed the same knuckle in question with the same part numbers as mine. They are 70-73 510 steering knuckles. What I came to find out also is that Nissan had made a few revisions of this part. If I'm wrong some one please chime in. These are simply my findings. Heres the link to that thread with the same knuckles as mine including part number. Thanks either way.

68-early 1971 510 11mm

Late 71-73 510 14mm

Those #'s are casting #'s (not part #'s), so yes, they can change with a casting/manufacturing change, but same product.

Are the end angles the same?

LOTS of 510 parts!
