Re: camber plate nuts
You're likely going to need to contact KYB. At least, when I had this happen (Cusco and Tokico) I contacted Tokico and they sent me a pair to fit what I had. T3 may also have stuff like that, but your local hardware store won't.

Re: camber plate nuts
I just put my inserts in the lath and turned them to 5/8". They were just some cheap ones I got from Pull A Part. Jordan sells those type of nuts I don't know what thread pitch they are.

Re: camber plate nuts
the whole insert in the lath??? or a torn apart one (like just the internal shaft)??? cuz i was thinking of this, cuz like right at the top of the shaft theirs a spot that looks like it could be turnd down to fit inside my camber plates but i thought when i took the whole insert to the machine shop and asked him to stick it in the lath he would think im crazy....
and yeah i had a spacer made and tryed to run a reg. lock nut up top but their ended up being some slack and ALOT of road noise..... so right now i have the stock top hats on witch lifted the car about 1 inch but alteast it rides quite..... but i still wana get my camber plates back on....

Re: camber plate nuts
Yep, put in the whole strut insert (not the whole strut!!). Be sure your machinist protects the chrome shaft - any slight marks will render the insert absolutely useless in a few cycles - so find a trustworthy machinist!
Also, don't machine off too much - obviously the diameter needs to be a very slight clearance (.001-.002"), but the height has to be a crush fit - any slop here will drive you nuts with the noise, not to mention it will hammer the insert and the bushing to death eventually.

Re: camber plate nuts
yeah i think im going to try that.... ill tape up the insert shaft to insure no damage i guess
i also have 280zx insert thread size so anyone with the right nuts id still like to try that option so every time i replace my insert i do not have to source a machine shop

Re: camber plate nuts
I'm having the same issue. The nuts that came with my cusco camber plates fit vw rabbit inserts, but not 280zx, as the threads on the insert shaft are too small.
So, I search.
I am thinking I will have to shorten my struts and just use rabbit inserts?

Yes, multiple times. They have not reponded.

Re: camber plate nuts
Byron when I turned down my insersts I didn't use anything to protect the chrome shaft and had no problems. I used the standard 3 jaw. I think your right though I gave somewhat of a shit so I made sure not to bang it around I'm sure some machine shops wouldn't even do that. One good thing about modded the struts I like is that it moves the shaft up so when or if the spring bottoms out it won't hurt the valves in the insert.Byron510 wrote:Yep, put in the whole strut insert (not the whole strut!!). Re: camber plate nuts
gbean, I just want to give you some info on the VW inserts. I've used these quite a few times, but they border on too short. The problem you may have - unless this is a really low track car - is that at a ride height high enough to clear pebbles, you'll find that the strut will top out - full extension. this will eventually blow the seals, ask me how I know! It's a great strut insert for the ultimate low 510, but even on the Bronze with just over 2 1/2" at the front X member - the VW Rabbit insert is actually too short. The MR2 insert is a happy medium between stock ZX and the VW unit.gbean wrote:okayfine wrote:Have you contacted Cusco?gbean wrote:I'm having the same issue. Re: camber plate nuts
warning possible thread jack:
this is a really novice question here, would shortening a 280zx strut be something to do when installing coilovers? Or is that eliminating the need to shorten the strut to take the mr2 insert? just curious Im having my coilovers put together pretty soon and have MR2 illuminas on order for the front. I was previously under the assumption that the coilovers would be shortening the strut on their own. and that it would be better to just match the length. of my current 280zx struts with 510 top hats.
the second I drove the car with ermish coilovers on the rear, I quickly need to go lower in the front. lowering springs and the 280zx length feel like they are bottoming out all the time.
