Yes that is an SR16VE, good eye.Boy Blunder wrote:This is great news...

The reason it is sitting in the car, FutoFab is working on a 1 1/8" front sump sway bar and I needed an engine sitting in a 510 to mock-up the bar around.
The back story on why I have it: The SR16VE project was originally slated for a tube frame SCCA-GTL racecar. The constant SCCA rules changes for the class basically killed any motivation I had to complete the project (or for that matter any racing within SCCA at the level I was). I have this engine, stock and intact, a second SR16 at the machine shop and a 3rd SR20VE as a head and short block. We made a short run of SR FWD engine to L series gearbox adapters to fit the engine to a RWD transmission. I even developed an ITB intake using 46mm Hayabusa throttle bodies for the project and have an M4 Motec ECU sitting someplace in Connecticut for it.
The SR16 will likely end up in my street car at some point.
I have a complete, brand new, never assembled tube frame chassis built by Don Oldenburg - Design Products Racing that was the basis of the project. It is sitting in the loft of my barn if anyone is interested.

Oh, the horribly boring life of a product developer!! Sounds like fun Dave, even the dead ends aren't dead!

I personally think a built SR16 would be a nice retro-mod 510 build. When we know you can crank out 200+ hp with ease but kind of lower the tqs a bit from an SR20.. I would feel it would be a little more forgiving but fun for a streetcar. If you feel like BS'ing about SR's feel free to shoot me a PM. I miss my SR20 cars, but hey.. I get to learn all over again with the L series.
I know that Troy Ermish is campaigning a GT3 510 out west ( and going up against the Huffaker GT5/3 Mini ) and is running a Rebello L18, or so he has told me. I didnt know that the SCCA allowed the L18 now, but in reality the car seems to have a good mid range tq advantage from some of the videos I have seen. Regardless... no one can complete with the Huffaker Mini... that thing is like a Jack Russel Terrier on crystal meth with a rocket on its back.
Correct me if I am wrong - Don Oldenburg is a common name in GT3 - he has done quite a few chassis correct? And speaking of Design Products racing.. How the hell does one get ahold of the guy to talk to him? I've tried on numerous occasions to get ahold of DP racing. No luck.
And By the way... I spotted the brakes on that car as well... What setup is that there? Looks like a modest vented rotor setup?

Re: Tokico is Back in the US
Boy Blunder,
I email Don and he usually gets back to me within a day or two. If you call its best to do it around 9AM his time.
Troy has been doing extremely well with his GTL 510. Expect to see him at the front of the field for SCCA's Runoffs at Laguna Seca in September.

Brakes, check out my earlier post. http://www.the510realm.com/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=26882

Do you happen to have an adjustable shock for the rear also?
If no one from the future comes back to stop you from doing it then how bad of a decision can it really be?

Re: Tokico is Back in the US
Currently not specific to the 510, but we are working on finding a potential option.
Re: Tokico is Back in the US
Dave - is your distributor able to get the stock front inserts for the 510? They list two of the three lengths available in Japan on the Tokico web site, the early 68-69 an the later 71-72.

Re: Tokico is Back in the US
I only have access to the HP & Illumina lines.
I'm guessing the OE replacement stuff is not a big North American seller given the number of other aftermarket suppliers around.

Re: Tokico is Back in the US
Will you be able to turn the top of the shaft to fit Troy's spherical bearing? I believe if you do the work then the customer still gets the full warranty?
