I'am also planning an SR20DE swap. Which JDM shop did you get them from and what did you pay for it if you don't mind? I went last week to look for a set of wheels and started asking for engine deals. They pretty much all told me it's hard to find a SR20DE these days in Japan...

It was $900 from Engine Land. They have iffy reviews online but since i'm fully disassembling and building the engine wasn't near as concerned, all looks good so far though. And i agree on them being hard to find, looked at a number of places and only found the one without a trans and ecu (i'm probably going with an S15 6 speed and need a standalone so didnt want them so it worked out) think they have another with everything for around $1500 though.

Thanks! I skipped this one due to the reviews... Looks like they have 2 with the 5speed in stock.

I'll keep an eye out for your build! Keep it up

Finally got the DE down to a bare block. Crank looks good thankfully, main caps have a little wear so going to have to see what the machine shop says about that.

Going to crack open the VE soon once I get the garage cleaned up abit haha

Me and Sam are doing the same build.

I find it weird that the VE motor which rev's higher doesn't have a fully counter weighted crank but the lower reving DET's do. Makes me wonder if it's really needed.

Cool! Didn't know anyone else was doing it aswell.

I hear ya, I believe the sr16ve has a fully counterweighted crank but may be wrong. Was thinking of going with one of them for even more revs due to their crazy rod/stroke ratio but losing .4 litres would really hurt the low end torque I imagine... but then again our light cars and my 4.44 gears could possibly help with that.

4.44 gears help with any motor. I had them behind my 1.6 before I went to the LZ. They made the 1.6 feel quick.
If no one from the future comes back to stop you from doing it then how bad of a decision can it really be?

Not a ton of progress since i've been sick the past week. The 2.1 is totally unhooked just need to take out the driveshaft and trans crossmember then can pull everything. Once that's done i'm taking the car to get the drivers floor touched up, it's not rotten but there's a couple pinholes and want the extra strength since a custom built 6 or 8 point cage will follow to tie the car together. Also got a great deal on some forged 11:1 CP pistons and Eagle Rods for the SR, 50% off sales are the best.

Have to stop being lazy and actually tear apart the VE now.

Got the head off the VE finally, been preoccupied building some other engines too.

Have to get this thing to the machine shop now for the new pistons.

Started cleaning up the engine bay in prep for the SR, stripping everything down and eventually painting it. Guess there will be one good looking part of the car haha

Image

Had to coat everything in oven cleaner to try and get the grime off, 46 years of oil and dirt sure don't want to come off.

Going to rinse off the cleaner tonight and finally pull what's left of the engine. Hopefully strip the last few things from the bay and start some sanding too

Well progress has been slow lately because of work / other projects and because i kept telling myself there must be a better way to bore my block besides buying a $700 torque plate i'd use once. Eventually made a post on a 240sx forum discussing the necessity of using one for my application and had someone offer to lend me one for the price of shipping, can't turn that down! Ordered some small parts from Mazworx today for the VE conversion, oil drain plug, oil pump drive shim, and a modified pickup, nothing big but its progress i guess. Hopefully getting the torque plate soon then i'll be dropping the engine off for a cleaning, boring and to get it measured for bearings. Still looking into exactly how tight i want to go for this engine since it'll be seeing some pretty crazy revs.

Also finally went through this thread and fixed most of my photbucket links, pretty cool reading back at everything i did and the excitement of small little things
