Draining the Account-72 Dime

Post by ray23 » 14 Sep 2018 11:08

Here's what I currently have on this 72 Datsun 510 2 door:

Engine: L18
Transmission: 5 speed from 77-78 280Z (unverified has L5 NMCA #1 and # 3 markings.
Wheels and Tires: 205-50-15 on XXR's 15x7 (not sure what model and if it's counterfeit)
Rear end: R180 out of a 240Z (will have MECH LSD)
Front suspension: DIY 510 shorten to 15" (measurement taken from inside the tube to the top of the tube) strut coilovers UNK brand with 2.5" ID, 8" tall 200lb springs( more likely gets 225-250 from Eibach). / FUTOFAB LCA&TCA combo with rubber boots. / stock steering linkages except for the DP racing delirium inserts for the idler arm. / DP racing 1" bumpsteer risers.
Rear suspension: Modified cross member with Aussie camber kits (can't remember the company) 3" exhaust hole./ poly bushings. / DP racing weight jacker kit (going to run with 2.5" ID, 600lb or less (not sure what length) Eibach springs.
Stock front brakes and Maxima disk brake conversion from Memmo-Baldwin Park. (will be running with brake booster from B210

She's was completely stripped down to bare metal. Removed all rusted bits and replaced with new metal, replaced both rear quarter with Dave's sheet metal, rebuilt the speaker tray from scratch, trunk floor drops were rusted, parts of the rocker and rear wheel well was rusted, floor pans replaced, roof skin replaced. Needless to say I wanted her to last another 40+ yrs. As soon I figure out how to shrink some of my current pics I'll be posting them. Thanks for all the information I've been receiving from everyone! I can't wait to drive her on the road again.

Here's what she looked like about 6 yrs ago when I first drove her home:

Nice looking car. 600lb is waaaaay too light for the rears to match with the front. To match with 250lb fronts you should be around 950lb. The rear control arm has a 3.8 : 1 ratio.
If no one from the future comes back to stop you from doing it then how bad of a decision can it really be?

Norm's right 600 lb is way way too soft. If you are putting them in the stock location.
It would be like driving a waterbed.
