can you take a closeup photo of the primary runners? I'm interested in these headers but those welds look pretty raw

Here's a pic, welds don't look too bad to me but I'm in no way a pro welder haha

Work has been pretty nuts so no real progress to report. Warm weather has finally hit on the east coast and not having the cars up and running sucks but don't want to cut any corners. Got ahold of another summer toy though so at least have something to do, it's a 2002 Ducati 750ss, very fun to ride!

Guess this is due for an update,

Finally got back into the car a few weeks ago, finished up the bay and finally sprayed some color! Borrowed a big 5hp compressor from work and spent the weekend laying down some epoxy primer, color, then a number of coats of clear.

After the first couple primer coats

Image

Finally some color! Went with Subaru Hyper Blue, hard to get a good picture of it here but it's the lighter non metallic blue they have on the BRZ and a few others

Image

Might eventually do the entire car in it, but we'll see. Started cleaning up some of the underhood odds and ends recently too, the nice bay just made everything else under the hood look like junk haha

Image

Wilwood 1inch master came in so need to get that thrown on too. Crossmember is currently out getting flipped and waiting on some new front suspension/steering parts then the engine will more than likely get thrown in! Few final fuel system parts are in the mail then can finish that part up aswell. If only i started doing all this work in the spring instead of the fall lol

More small progress, new 1" wilwood master is in! Also picked up a new idler arm since mind had a good amount of slop in it, painted up steering box looks nice too!

Crossmember should be done any day now then can start some major work

That looks very good, I love the color. What brakes are you going to use with that 1" bmc?

Thanks! And I have a set of Wilwoods on the front I threw on late last year and plan to some day throw a set on the rear. The old master couldn't push the fluid they needed and the pedal felt real spongy, I know this one will be a little stiff but I'm okay with that.

As much as we all want a "stiff/firm" pedal, we do want some "feel" to it. If you find that it is hard to modulate the brakes, you could try my trick of putting in the 2" extension into the brake pedal. The increased leverage I got with my 15/16" master made all the difference in the world.

Your welding looks impeccable so from a safety standpoint, you are good to go. Depending on the size of your feet and gas pedal, it also makes for very good heel and toe position too.

Few more small things added to the bay

The shops "few days" it would take for the crossmember are really stretching out, coming up on 3 weeks now...

Also added a fuel cell since the only spot local wanted a fortune to modify my tank. Yes I know the spare tire well isnt the best spot for it in the case of a rear end collision but I'll take my chances

I was kinda hoping you'd keep the olive colour, in shiny new paint it suits the era of car.

Progress is good, you'll be happy to drive it next year, maybe?

I really considered the green but in the end I really like that blue. I'm definitely shooting for the spring, the list of things left to get her running isnt all that long now, mainly get the engine in and start wiring

Well the project has taken another turn, had a fella interested in buying the engine for the last while and finally came to an agreement. He traded me a complete Ca18det.... and a 1970 240z for it haha. Tore the carbs apart and sanded the points and it fired right up. Has all new brakes, s13 suspension, and some nice Watanabe copies in 15x9-20 and 15x10-20. Needs floors and a patch on the rail but all in all it's not too bad!

Need to get it into the garage or garage tarp here soon and start some work

Got to work cleaning up the CA18 and it needed a little more work then was initially let on. Ran a compression test and number 3 & 4 cylinders were pretty low (60 and 80psi) while the first two were totally fine, added oil to the low cylinders and the both shot up to match the others which points to rings.

Tore it all apart and cylinders/pistons look fine thankfully. Decided to check the bearings while i was already into it, turns out the center main journal on the crank picked up debris at one point and had a nasty groove all the way around, thankfully only needed .10 taken off to smooth everything out again. Cleaned and painted everything and figure while it's apart wont hurt to do the valve seals, and water/oil pump.

Don't have any before pics but it was a grimy engine that looked like it was rattle canned black while in the bay, doesn't look to bad anymore!
