Going Back to 70's

I got this '71 column AT sedan three years ago. My original plan was to recreate a rally car I used to drive back in 70's. It is a kind of nostargic project.

Image

Florida car deserted in Michigan barn unmolested...this means 2-inch thick beach sand under the carpet and roden nest. First thing I did was remove everything including frozen engine and sanitize inside. I found a corn inside intake manifold. It is intersting to see how some people fix a car.....

My brother sent me new rubber/chrome parts (box on 510). That was a great help.

Gas tank has rust and tar from old (old) gas....need a new one or fuel cell.

When I was kid onthe prairies, I remember half of the 510´s in the area being that olive green colour!

How rusty is that car? Looks like quite a project.

Rally 510´s are still in my heart. My father rallied and ice raced ina 510 - I grew up in that culture. It was great, I loved every minute of it. It´s no wonder I bought my first 510 at 14 years old!

Keep us posted.

The worst rust was under the rear seat.

Exhaust valve and seat of original 210 head was seriously damaged so I decided to rebuild A87 L18.

Cannot find variable rate springs in my storage so I decided to use +23% linear rate spring instead. Tried several shocks and TRD Rally Celica shocks (F) and Tokico Rally-G (R) seem to be the best matching. Slight understeer...my style.

Only engine bay is painted. Rest is still primer grey. I need to make this operatable first and drive it to paint shop.

I like that green, but I like the green of Nillon's (sp?) more, he's got a pop and son post thread.

I like the color too. Classic, yet modern look.
