This is the car that i'm doing for NissanSport... bone stock 69...
if you look closely, you'll noticethe cigarette lighter andradio delete panels still in place...
it has rotten front floorpans, a few dings(the front DR fender was bent during a car shuffle ayears ago... i think it can be saved , but other than that its totally complete and dead stock.

I picked up new taillights and a new front bumper from Sports Imports yesterday...

Ross still has that blue/primer wagon if anyone needs a solid project... it has dings too, but the floorpan is mint... solid car. Ross is stocking Euro tailight assemblies etc... got a good price on mine, think he sells them regular for $265 CDN , but he's in a dealing mood right now if you're looking for 510 stuff... he's got hubcaps, grills ,lights, a few new front bumpers...

update...

I've stripped it from the taillights to the dashboard. I'm going slow, cleaning, bagging and labeling things as I go.

good surprises... a key for the car under the front seat. I didn't have one, so that solves potentially a couple hundred dollars worth of issues.. and the original 510 rear panel emblem under the gas tank.. is good, but not perfect condition, but usable... judging by the decal over the mounting hole, it been off the car since 75.

Bad surpises.. bad enough Cancer in the front floor pans to require a heavy transplant, and probably at least one of the rear ones as well... fortunately the section under the seat cross piece is solid on both sides.

Because this car sat so long undriven(1978 to now), lots of parts are like new... in such good condition, I don't think I could get NOS ones that would be "as correct" for a resto... the gas cap is still "Zinc gold" and has the original instruction sticker on it... lots of little things like that. the door and rear side panels look new. Just the pot metal and plastic chrome are corroded on everything.

I hit the Rearview mirror with my head and the damn plastic came apart like poptart icing... just dust.

Pic's tomorrow

Everyone from California to washington state just vomited a little in their mouths... this is the worst thing i've found in the car... everything else is a clean, test, regrease and reinstall so far otherthan the bumpoes and crcked rear taillights...

love working on cars in the slush...

Stripped out most of the engine bay today, and the dash.. got the dash out in one big piece after disconnecting the heater /fan box and controls...

The dashpad cracked on the way out. I knew that was coming as it had sat facing the sun for 24 years... oh well, I've got a 68 dash pad (that's got some flex) - that looks the same.

Every screw head under the hood and dash was rusty, but I got all the screws and bolts out - humidity!
I'm just going to assume all the switches are corroded and toast. the voltage regulator internals turned to dust when i touched them.

Tried to turn the engine over with the big bar, but it won't budge. I got the exhaust manifold loose, but the intake is giving me the gears, I sprayed it with penetrant and will leave it til tomorrow.

I want to rebuild a L16 for this project -either the one in it if i can get it to crank, or the one out of Cam's old 68 4 door. Can I get a rebuild kit for it, or is it a PN by PN deal?

I have never seen a full kit but they may be out there, I usually get the timing kit, and the full gasket kit separately.

Got the engine out this afternoon... Clutch looks like it was just put on, starter gears have no wear... trippy. Dropped the oil pan and I can see that the pistons have moved about 2 inches in my dragging/ cranking efforts, but the engine will still not crank round by hand.

I got the intake manifold off by hanging engine by it, which got me a slight opening.. then I slowly chiseled the gasket out... took me a while - thing was glued on tight!

I'm going to take the head off tomorrow maybe, but I might just leave it til later as I want to get everything inside the house to clean up/restore before it snows.

What about pouring some oil down the intake and exhaust valves so that it leaks down on the pistons/rings?
The crank was still oily, but there were a few moisture rust "dots" on the bottom of the block.

ross cut me a deal on the taillights... they are Newer Nissan Stock - perfect in every way- red and amber style(euro) and complete down to the new nuts, bolts, and very flexible gaskets... I think he has them at about $250.00 canadian a side, thats like 210 USD right now.

Bumpers, if you have a good clean one, he's got a good rechromer- mine without core ex was $400, if not $600.00 for a Mint New Old Stock one still in the wrapper.

ATF works wonders on stuck motors, lots of detergents in it. My brother picked up an old Jawa motorcycle out of a guys back yard a few years ago that had a stuck motor. A few ounces of ATF down the spark plug holes, 12 hours later and the weight of the kick starter alone could almost turned it over.

Merlin, if you have any diesel oil, that stuff is full of detergents also, couldn't hurt to put a little in.

The front valance(apron) seems to have come available.
A lot of this stuff is showing up NOS on ebay, so it's coming from somewhere... since Canada pulls from local stock and Japan stock, maybe some of it will show up.

It also helps having every PN and supercedence # as of 2004 in a searchable computer program

BTW the dealer list is sig. lower than the NOS stuff is selling for on ebay. EG there is a front (APRON) valance on right now - with a buy it now price of $400.
Dealer retail was about 200 bucks as of 2004.
PN is 62610-a4930 if anyone wants to try - this is the 69-73 version.
