Rheis' 72 4door
Rheis' 72 4door
I figured after having this car for almost a few years now it was about time to make a thread so here we go...
I bought this car back in Sep 2006 from the island off of Rick Reddy... some of the stuff it had:
a 1600 with a oversize 2 litre carb with no aircleaner
280 5 speed which I later found had little to no oil in it and was also mounted at the wrong angle with a crap half ass home made trans mount
chopped springs & stock brakes
paint job with key marks and scratches minor body damage and little bubble rust in the usual spots
crap interior with missing parts
crap aftermarket carpet and a cracked aftermarket steering wheel
a buch of electrical problems and the stereo deck removed
locks didnt work
I later found out from Lou and Dean on here some of the history of the car and that they kindly gave a lot of the parts to another Rick, a Rick D, who assembled this car since then I have fixed a lot of of the stuff here is a list:
changed the 1600 to a rebello built 1800 with a downdraft and header
rabbit radiator with dual electric fans
topped up the transmission and instaled a proper Specialty crossmember
shortened front 280 struts and brakes with all new parts and coilovers 5 way adj shocks & camberplates bought from Specialty, new 280 brake master
just recently did the entire rear end.. new 200sx brakes & hradware, r180 lsd clutchpack 4.11 built by Specialty along with their spring & shock combo, the crossmeber was also slotted and set up by Specialty
new grant steering wheel, new guages, wink mirror
kenwood deck installed and sorted out alot of electrical probems, bigger alternator also instaled
solex locks that I ground the casings down so I didnt have to cut my holes bigger
fibrglass hood
there is also a bunch of other stuff I probably forgot too
lot of pictures to follow soon!

Re: Rheis' 72 4door
so here are some pictures from the 2008 show & shine showing how the car looks now
Re: Rheis' 72 4door
thanks Jason but I dont know if I can make the drive as my tie rods and idler arm need replacing still and Andy is making the idler bushing ... the car is pulling left and while I am at it (before alighnment) I need part of the frame pulled as it seems a previous owner hit a curb ... its a tall order to fit in a few days
here is a pic of what needs to be pulled out a bit on the passenger side

Front Suspension
Re: Rheis' 72 4door
Rear Suspension ... I also cleaned up part of the underbody while I was there which was one of the bigger pain in the ass things to do
I dont have pictures of the interior but I will snap some soon along with the turbo 2L and parts Re: Rheis' 72 4door
Interior and I forgot to mention I installed mr2 seats
no holes drilled for the wink mirror Re: Rheis' 72 4door
as some of you may know I bought James' old carbed turbo setup
Re: Rheis' 72 4door
a few months back I came across a guy who had a low km turbo 2 litre that he blew the rings out of (or so he says) but it looks ok to me .. still have to take it to get magnafluxed and then rebuild it ... I am shooting for a reliable 200hp at the wheels on pump gas

Re: Rheis' 72 4door
more parts that came with the motor
Re: Rheis' 72 4door
So I started to dissasemble the motor... I guess this will just clean off? I have never done any internal motor work before. I was thinking just get it cleaned up best I can by hand and then hot tanked? This motor was sitting for about 10 years by the way
