Byron,

Might you have any specs on the dolly or rotisserie...that would sure save me some time!

For sure going to keep the color...It was my first 510 and I was ignorant to the available stock colors...its now my favorite...dumb luck

It sure would be great to be physically closer to my 510 brothers. The only time I get to see any other Dimes in person is the SPEC 510 here on the East Coast. I can't tell all you guys that have helped me out of my 510 ignorance over the past few years how helpful forums, email lists, and publications like DQ have been....Thanks...keep it up...its appreciated!

Hi Chip,

The dolly is again sitting back behind my father's place. I built it for the Bronze overhaul. When that job was completed, I said to myself "That's the last one I'll do to this degree....". We'll since then I built my brothers car, the Memorial Car was on it and I still have Ole Blue (3 on the tree, L13 car).

I don't have the measurements handy, but I could do that for you. But to be honest I used the mounts where the front X member attaches to the "rails", and then used the outer studs for the rear X member on the Bronze build. Placing the rear wheels of the dolly at the back of the rear wheel well would work fine. I placed mine further back, but it's not necessary. For the Memorial built I placed a smaller set of supports from the rear diff bolts down to the support.

I actually preferred the dolly to the rotisserie, it was more stable which is important when bodywork is in the picture.

Below is a like to a photo of the dolly for you. I have no photos of the rotisserie, it was used in the time before the digital age and I have precious few photos of the bamboo 68 4dr I started on that rotisserie.

I have this dolly in Charlotte N.C. collecting dust. My car was rolled around on it for three years, even towed on a trailer with it. ITEM extrusion and large locking castors. It's had three 510's on it, waiting on it's next assignment. If you, or anyone you know, plan to be in Charlotte, it's disassembled and fits in a small trunk.

Found some time today to assemble the car dolly that Brad was kind enough to lend me for the project. It went together very nicely and is quite strong and easy to roll. I need to attach the rear supports to the uprights in the morning. Then its get the 4dr out of the trailer and up on the lift and lowered onto the dolly. This should move this project right along! Thanks Brad

Long time coming, but finally started moving forward on the restoration. I've got a mobile blast guy coming by on Monday to look at the shell...thinking either recycled glass bead or soda. Also chatted with my fabrication guy, and am in the queue for some rust repair as some of it is beyond my expertise. Then its off to the paint shop. Pictures Next. Brad thanks for letting me use the dolly...so far its working great and I am sure all my subs will enjoy it as well!

I've made some progress on the restoration lately.

The shell is on the dolly, thanks to S15DET and has had all but one of the rust areas repaired. Many thanks to Dave Patton for supplying the rear light panel as this was the worst part on the car. The hole in the roof has been repaired along with the right A pillar, both front fender bottoms, and beaver panel. I was able to use a hood from a different car and the trunk lid from my old yellow Vintage racecar. I also got some much needed help from Dave Patton again on the drivers side trunk drop as mine was swiss cheese. I am using a test panel that he provided for the project. I should get it fitted in the next couple of weeks...then I'll either be using an outer quarter repair piece from Down Under or one of Wolf Steel's pieces. Follow ups to come.

The body is coming back from the body and paint shop in the next few weeks. It came back a couple months ago and some things had to be redone as they weren't up to the my standards for the car. The owner of the shop has made it his own private project and has convinced me its going to be special. Pictures will follow shortly.

Its taken a while to get to this point with the car. I've done a ton of thinking about the power train during that time. I was set on an L20b for the longest time, and have everything together to build the motor. Well that has changed. Recently a longtime Datsun guy offered up a VG33 for sale with very low miles and a z31 box to go with it. This package should be on its way to me soon. My interest in the VG options also caught the eye of a local east coast forum member. A few emails later we had struck a deal on a complete Z31 parts car and some assorted parts to make the VG swap easier. So now I've got a few options. Fact is I may now keep the other 4dr and do a VG in that as well...or sell it and find a 2dr to do. My son is 8 and before you know it he'll be sitting in the drivers seat....maybe he'd be better with a little less torque for his first car.

Pictures to follow
