Re: Shawn’s ‘72 Driver
I don't think I have ever seen a fresh coat of that color, it looks great.

My favorite 510 color!

Thanks Ron. I've always liked this colour on a 510, which is why I really pushed Shawn to keep it this way.RONSLYCHUK wrote:The car looks great Byron, good job!
At first Shawn wanted to do something over top of this colour, but I'm not sure if he's still going in that direction now. After all this work, I'm thinking not, but maybe he'll chime in.
It was an amazing amount of work just to get to here, and there is still lots ahead.
This is the third time I'm painting this colour - 546 green. The only 510 I've regretted to sell was this colour. I actually painted this car twice in the four years I owned it. Here she is below. Shawns car will look even better with the Panasports!

That is my favorite color as well. I really like the tire and rim combo on that car. I think 14's are ideal for a 510!
Re: Shawn’s ‘72 Driver
That is just the RIGHT color for a 510. Always liked the Pea green wagon that was at Shasta all the time.

This is all very inspiring....I wish I had a garage that I could do this in (and neighbors who wouldn't call the authorities for painting).
Nicely done - keep those pics coming....

Thanks for all the comments guys. Helps keep me going.
Shawn and I started yesterday with the intension of masking the car and getting the first coat of epoxy primer on, but it didn’t work out quite that way. When we started wiping the car down when we both started noticing areas that needed more work. Most spots were little blemishes, but we ended up really going to town then the driver’s side front fender and rear quarter. By the end of the day we did get the car masked off, but it was too late in the afternoon to start painting.
This is how it looked when we left yesterday.

So today started at 8am with the wiping down and tacking off of the car. By 10 am I was ready to start laying down the DP-40 . It was great to see the car in a solid colour – even if it was just primer/sealer.

Then the final step today was to lay down three coats of high build - K38. Most of this will likely get sanded off again, but we'll have a nice smooth surface to lay the paint on.
Here are some pics with the masking all removed. We dread having to re-mask again, but the next time will be the last time.

So now it's time to get out the long boards and the fine paper, and seek out those low spots. Another step closer. I can't wait to actually lay down the paint. That heater sure came in handy again today, it was two degrees below Zero this morning, but it was a solid 25 deg C in the shop!
