My Datsun 1500 [L510] From Chile
My Datsun 1500 [L510] From Chile
This is my 510! After much searching a car to buy. I decided on this 510, which is not in the best condition, but with a little love, time and money can be left pretty. When I bought had the starter and distributor wrong. The car has a lot of rust and a small shock in the rear. All 510 here have a J15 or J13 engine (and was manufactured in Chile), I plan to put a L18S engine from a Bluebird SSS 910 with 5th Gear Box and SU carburetors. I also want to put the camhead from the L16, 2 "inch exhaust and custom suspencion. No more waiting .... Here are the photos

It sure has a lot of 'character bumps' I love it. You mention the L18 910SSS having a 5 speed. Would you know if this is the 31.5" (80cm) long dogleg transmission with the gears reverse above 1st? Like this:

You wouldn't happen to live in Los Condes, Santiago? Background looks familiar. I could be crazy too.

I think you may be the first member from Chile on this forum.
Welcome.
The car needs lots of work, it looks like it's had a lot of use! How hard is it to obtain spare parts?
I look forward to you staying in contact with our forum, no matter what happens with your 510. I personally look forward to your input in any way as this is the magic of the internet bringing the world together.
And please share as many photos as you can.
What is the tag/plate behind the cylinder head on the fire wall beside the wiper motor? Can we get a closer photo?

No, the only Datsun sold with those gearbox were the 160J SSS with L16 and the Silvia S110. The 910 had the same gearbox as the Laurel.datzenmike wrote:It sure has a lot of 'character bumps' I love it. You mention the L18 910SSS having a 5 speed. My car needs a lot of work but with time you can leave again. It is difficult to obtain spare parts for cars, usually buy two cars to build one.
Now upload more photos
Excuse my writing. I use the google traslator to writing this jajajaja
New wheels
It occurred to me, put an SR20DE engine, but carburetor. Do you think? The other possibility is a carbureted also KA24E. (Reference photos)

Wow! Such a weird combination of parts/trim compared to the usual US stuff. I see it is a "Deluxe" model based on the left fender badge, but it doesn't have seats with headrests and it DOES have the package shelf under the glove box which was a SSS-only option in Japan. And there's the J engine. Do you also have a solid axle in the rear?
Very interesting, thank you for sharing.

Yes, it has solid axle. The cars were manufactured in Chile, in two versions: the Datsun 1300 and 1500 Deluxe. All have a solid axle, drum brakes on all wheels, J13 or J15 engine, the 1300 have the gearbox on one side of the steering wheel.okayfine wrote:Wow! Wow a straight axel 510 sedan! I have never seen that before that just goes to show that you can learn new things everyday!! I thought I saw what looked like a leaf spring in the picture but I though it was just the exaust till Julian mention it.

So...are front drum wheel cylinders and brake shoes readily available in Chile?

Ha! I knew it looked familiar! I spent a month in CHile in '07. I stayed in the the Dali hotel in Las Condes when I was in Santiago. Are you close to that? Looks the same. My father was born and raised in Chile. Good to know I'm not crazy!
