I brushed mine with a few of those styrofoam cheap brushes. I used POR-15 brushed it in first to make sure it go into those seams really well. Then mixed up paint but didn't dilute it as thin as called for. Brushed in three coats and it's still in great condition 16 years later.

I found they didn't soak up much paint.

Started stripping the half cut this weekend with a couple of mates.
Got the engine/transmission into the 1600, currently it is just sitting spaced off the crossmember. Also have to cut some of the transmission tunnel to get the transmission sitting higher (haven't worked out how much to take off yet). Currently the engine tilts back about 5.5deg, so going to have to lift a few degrees. The engine mount rubbers were stuffed (completely split), so have to find some new mounts (or something similar), but they will fit just ahead of the crossmember, so will be an easy mount to make. Radiator was too wide and too tall to fit, so will need a new one and the brake booster/clutch master might get tight. Also haven't checked the steering yet (engine/transmission came in from the bottom).

This is all I took off the crossmember, don't even need to reverse it.

Wow, that really is a front sump!
I don't have any ideas on replacements for the mounts you have, but I am worried about how low your front sump is. I've hit a few things with my cross member over the years, I'd hate to see the sump take the first hit. A skid plate will likely be needed there, since pushing the motor upwards does not appear to be an option.

Yep got a few ideas. I can actually go a little higher, skid plate would probably be first option, then there's option of modifying sump (or even just building a brand new one to suit).

Excellent work so far. Even though my 510 is really quite rusted out and I'm making all my own patch panels, at least there is someone out there who has shown that it can be done.

The mounts that came with the half cut were completely split, so I had to order some mounts for the car. I wanted to reuse the aluminium mounts. Rang toyota and found out that they wanted $200 a piece for the rubber mounts! Found a guy in australia with some good ones and had them shipped up. So I was finally able to modify the crossmember.

The next two photos show the clearance on the sides of the transmission before I lifted the rear (needs to come up about 100mm).

Cut a little out of the tunnel, this puts the transmission about 2degrees vertically out from the diff. I think I want them closer to parallel though, so will probably lift the transmission further. This will require cutting the tunnel almost all the way to the firewall though. I will also have to do something about the sump/bellhousing or the steering linkage as they currently clash. Maddat.com.au do a modified linkage that might work.
Gear stick currently comes through at the front seat mount, which I think might work well.
