Wow, almost 3months between posts! That is not good. Unfortunately i've had a busy last 4months with work, so only minimal progress to show.

I made a swirl pot for my fuel tank.
ImageGAS1600_051_01 by Garvice, on Flickr

ImageGAS1600_051_02 by Garvice, on Flickr

Cut the bottom of the tank open and put a slight sump in, also put a longer internal tube in

ImageGAS1600_051_04 by Garvice, on Flickr

Cut a hole in the top to insert the altezza intank pump
ImageGAS1600_051_05 by Garvice, on Flickr

Potted the wiring

I have also run some brake, clutch and fuel lines. One thing i think I won't do again is try and run brake lines while the engine is still in the car. Hoist made it easier, but it was still a stupid idea. A stripped out engine and driveline would be much easier.

Great to see some progress.
Yes running the plumbing with the drive train in place would be a pain in the butt.
I'm curious. For the top of your fuel tank, what will you use for a seal in your new access door for the fuel pump?

Hey Byron,
I'm going to use a fuel resistant sealant. Will be a pain to get on and off (bit like oil pan) but I don't plan on getting in there often so should be ok.

Finished off most of the fuel tank, so gave it a coat of primer. I need to work out a different fuel sender as the arm on the altezza won't work with my swirlpot and I need to find the original sender seal so that i can seal up the tank.

Started cleaning up the suspension components. Blasted and primed.

Got to get some chassis black paint to finish these off.

I've also got some cool stuff coming hopefully soon, but i'll leave that to another post.

Well December was a busy month for me. I was hoping to receive all my brake gear, but only got the rear end stuff before the christmas break, waiting on the front hubs to be machined/anodized. Hopefully have them before end of the month.

So December, corolla got written off in the massive hail storm, but that is ok, because I had already purchased a 2001 Nissan Stagea the week prior. Stagea was in sydney, so did a weekend trip down and road trip back to brisbane with a mate. Week later my wife had our 3rd and final baby, another son, 8p 6oz - 3.810kg.

Then there was Christmas celebrations (wife in hospital with baby this year) and dealing with 3 boys and a wife who is recovering.

So car stuff. Most of this has been late december, early this year.

Got some paint on the front of the radiator support.

Painted some suspension gear.

Got the rear brake kit, r31 brakes.
ImageGAS1600_053_03 by Garvice, on Flickr

Assembled the rear subframe/brakes etc. Rebuilt the rear control arms with new bearings/seals.

Bought some semi slicks from Rob at http://tyre-city.com.au/ at Northgate. Massive thanks to Rob, I am recommending him to all that listen. Sent the wife in to get the tires for the stagea and the 1600 and he was extremely accommodating and from my wife (who get sent to a lot of blokey places) "he was a very nice guy, not condescending at all".

Mounted the rear subframe, got to trial fit the wheels today, they fit on the rear! Woohoo! Need to get some centre caps and new nuts.

Congrats on increasing the herd - I stopped at two my friend...didn't think we could handle more. Best wishes to the wife on her recovery. That's really important to the little guy, and his brothers.

Car looks good - and some pretty decent sized shoes on the car! What are the specs on the rim size/offset and tire (tyre) width?

Project has come a long way since its inception.

Hey Byron, cheers for the congrats.

Tires look bigger because they are semis.
Tires are 205 50 r federal 595rsr.

Wheels are Watanabe and are meant to be 6.5". However when I measured them they are 190mm outside to outside and are 34mm positive offset. I'll take a photo of the clearance. Fronts either need r31 struts or custom hubs.

Well I should of waited a couple of days to do my last post.

Dave at Futofab.com has started making reproduction front bumpers among other panels. I ordered one and it shipped 30/Dec and arrived today 06/Jan! Very happy with the service, will be ordering a rear bumper when they are available.

This photo doesn't have it mounted completely straight (I haven't redrilled the front mounting holes when I rebuilt the front end), but none the less it looks cool!

Very happy with it.

Got a 2.5" heavy wall driveshaft made for the car, so the driveline is now coupled from the engine through to the rear wheels. Woohoo.

I also got a good portion of the exhaust completed. At the worst parts (end of tunnel and the gearbox cross member) it hangs below the sills by about 20mm. The rest of it is above the sills.

It is 2.5" 304ss with vband flanges and straight through oval muffler. I put a flanged section in so that the rear crossmember and components can be dropped by just removing a short section of pipe. I have to put some hanger supports in for the middle section of pipe and weld up the joins in the middle section (middle section is only tacked). I am also going to put a 2.5" bend on the muffler outlet to point the outlet slightly down and away from the stock exhaust relief.

Three things that i've learnt along the way doing the exhaust.
1 - The 1600 tunnel is stupidly small. It is like they were designing a front wheel drive car and at the last minute decided to make it rear wheel drive. I don't know how people fit 3" exhausts down that tunnel. I have a small drive shaft and a relatively small exhaust and it is less than ideal.
2 - The 1600 spare wheel well is enourmous. It has to be one of the biggest wheel wells in history (tongue in cheek). It makes it hard to fit any decent sized muffler at the back.
3 - Exhaust work blows. I can understand why people pay to get exhausts done, not a very fun job.

Exhaust looks good, any chance of better close up pictures to show clearance?

I plan to run mine in the tunnel as my car is very low and then poke it out the side.
