GAS 1600
Re: GAS 1600
Thanks for the link ! The Go kart looks awesome. How fast does it goes ?
Re: GAS 1600
Geared for 35km/hr but motor (just a 250w dc motor) isn't big enough for that without a long straight. Mate's son was only 10 months old when we finished it so doesn't need to go real quick for a while yet. Next one for my son's (all under 6) will have 2 x 500w dc motors to start them maybe a petrol 4 stroke in the future.
Re: GAS 1600
That's great! Love seeing that.
Re: GAS 1600
How's the project going ?
Re: GAS 1600
Sorry guys. For some reason didn't get notification on the last post. Unfortunately i haven't really had anytime this year to work on the car. Work, lack of funds, other projects and general family commitments have had the car sitting lonely on the hoist for about a year now. Rest assured when I work on it with any real progress I'll update here.
Re: GAS 1600
Well another years gone with no work on either of the datsuns. Almost finished this for the boys though.

Making all us dad's look bad.
Re: GAS 1600
Almost 2 years (20.5months) since I last worked on the datsun. Got out to the shed today and did a little work, no pictures yet.
Fixed the drivers qtr panel mounting flange (welded new nuts on/fixed rust) and fixed the passengers qtr panel rust. Also noticed the owner side qtr had a lot of bog do needed sine reshaping.
Current Job list with completed jobs underlined.

Re: GAS 1600
Well I managed to get a couple of days in the shed. Last month a couple of mates helped me out on the datsun and we ended up with a fan mount for the radiator. Still need to weld in a boss for the water temp. switch but it's another job off the list.
I also got out to the shed today and finished off the front quarter panels. Both needed new top and sill mounts. The passenger side needed to be rebuilt at the sill section and was in pretty rough shape at the front from a previous prang and dodgy fix. Required a fair bit of work to get it to meet up with the radiator support and front valence. Now i have both front quarter panels fully mounted for the first time. The panel gaps are not the best but I just have to keep reminding myself it's a 47 year old car and if I keep working this slow on it the car is going to be 50 before it's on the road.
Only got a few quick photos for you guys of the lower sill repair on the guard, didn't take any photos of the mounts or other repairs along the way sorry.

Re: GAS 1600
Man I don't make a list like that it would scare the shit out of me! Cool that you are moving forward, I also need to get on the stick!

Re: GAS 1600
Thanks Joel. I needed to make the list and start ticking stuff off as the project was stalling and I was procrastinating too much every time I had a chance to work on it. P.S. underlined stuff is completed.
Re: GAS 1600
Got photos working again, dreading having to redo all those dead links for the photobucket posts though.
Re: GAS 1600
Got to work on the 1600 again.
Fixed my bent valence mount. Made a drivers side grille mount and mounted the grill/light surrounds. Not a perfect fit but again, it's an old car and it just needs to get on the road, so I'm not tweaking the mounts any further.
Fabricated drivers side grille mount on left, original Datsun passenger side grille mount on right.

Re: GAS 1600
Progress is good - thanks for the updates. Yes the photo thing sucks for you and a lot of people using photo bucket. I lost a huge photo thread on my Bronze build here on the site, I put some of it back where time allowed but most of the actual initial build up to 2006 was lost as it was really just a photo thread.
I can't wait to finish working on my shed so that I can get back to working on cars! The shed has been a nearly 3 year project now...I guess I should update that thread too!
Great to see your car again, we lost you for a while.
