I'm a long time 510 guy but new to the forum. I finally joined because of your diesel. I've got a 510 wagon and a 2003 Volkswagen tdi engine I've been conniving to put together with an Acme adapter plate and a Toyota 5-sp. Now I've seen your build. From the get-go I wanted to keep it all Datsun but couldn't source an engine except for the old S22. Is there any way you could fill me in on more details of your build? Where did you get the engine and how do you think it would compare to a VW TDI? I'm looking for high mileage with good performance. Knowing how a Jetta tdi moves out and gets 40-50 mpg carrying around 3500 pounds, a 2200 pound 510 would have to be at least that good right?
