my 510 resurection project
my 510 resurection project
I will resume what I've done since last year , and keep you up to date with the progress going on from now.
In my presentation you see how the car was ... 15 years outside the barn can't be good lol
As you can see the front was smashed floors were mostly gone ..
so ... lets start ..
removed the engine :
changed the front panel
then I got the rigidity back...
the other side was even worse
then floors :
and now that the frame was stong enough , rotisserie:
made the underframe rails 8 inches longer than stock for more rigidity
frame patches 16g sheet metal
weight jacks
more floor work
found another dash , thx to Dirttrack510 on ratsun
overall work at this moment :
rear control arm :
front mr2 insert and shortened strut tube:
rear KYB AGX camaro shock
fuel cell
tail lights panel :
flare glued with structural adhesive
wheels
more floor work :
a little motivation :
new front brakes bought from denis.drc
RCA's from karnuts , I highly recommend those , they are perfect fit
brakes installed :
more work on the tail panel :
4.111 subaru forester diff installed ,
it took my wheels back to a decent camber ...
font end test fit
and this is pretty much it... interesting parts coming by now . I ordered a new wilwood pedal box as the original one was roten out . Also I received my crankshaft bearings to begin the engine work:
the engine that was in the car is a L20B , I got 3 heads with it all with different regrinded cams , flat tops pistons , fully couterweight nitrated crankshaft and more. hoping I will get around 170whp out of it ..
casting mark in the block were grinded out by previous owner too
and this is where I am now , feel free to comment

Man resurrection is right, good job bringing it back. I like the extensions on the "frame"

Welcome to the realm. You've put an amazing amount of work into the car so far, thanks for summing it all up for us.
I know 510's are hard to find back east, and you took on a very ambitious project. Good on you for all the work you've done so far. Most would have walked away long ago!
Keep the pics coming.

One post rebuild! That's a lot of work, looks like you don't really need any motivation.
What are your secrets to getting that much power from an L20B?

Because when you spend a silly amount of money on a silly, trivial thing that will help you not one jot, you are demonstrating that you have a soul and a heart and that you are the sort of person who has no time for Which? magazine. – Jeremy Clarkson

There is no secret lol this is what the last owner told me he had with this setup running twin DCOE 48 (might be less too..)
I will keep the updates coming , hoping to do a lot next week since I'm on holiday . I would really like to get it on primer before August ans it will happen if I find a place to rent a soda-blast equipment
thx for the comment guys

Man, you weren't kidding when you said "resurrection". Your baby was suffering from late-stage terminal cancer and you've applied some serious chemotherapy. Good show!

No, I'm pretty sure it was only "mostly dead".MCMLXXXV wrote:in fact it was dead lol
There's a big difference between mostly dead and all dead. Mostly dead is slightly alive. With all dead, well, with all dead there's usually only one thing you can do... go through his clothes and look for loose change.*

Re: my 510 resurection project
At least one 510 is being saved while mine dies more. The rockers are getting really bad. You need to buy mine to save... if the time ever comes...
Re: my 510 resurection project
if you were closer I could really do something if you want some rocker I can get some made for you for a good price (around 80$ plus shipping for both)
I should get my 150lbs of blasting soda tomorrow to clean the whole body and get it primed
I should get more pictures soon
