Re: 1971 2 Door 70s build
A few small updates, recieved my clutch master cylinder today, have a set of NOS flat top pistons on the way now and we finally got our garage approved so hopefully it'll be up before the winter. I do have one question though, with my plans for the built up l16 with bigger cam and the flat tops on the way what head should I be looking for? The highest octane I have available is 91so I know that'll limit the compression I can run but what would be best for my application?

Re: 1971 2 Door 70s build
Non-US markets got L16SSS which had flat-tops and the peanut head, so compression isn't necessarily an issue. It is in something like the L20B, but you have another 3/4" of stroke over an L16, so lots more to squish.
Lots of compression ratio calculators online, just plug in numbers and see. I'd definitely look for a peanut head, though, even if you have to massage the combustion chamber shape slightly to get the comp ratio where you want it. The old-school books like How To Modify will have tons of information about stuff like this, as will DQ with the cylinder head guide and cylinder head modification articles.

For an A87, that looks to have had some work done. Intake ports at least have been ported to something like a Weber DCOE intake size. Exhausts even look larger than OE.

Re: 1971 2 Door 70s build
Recieved my A87 head the other night (thanks MCMLXXXV) so hopefully I'll get that out to a machine shop soon to see if it needs anything. In other news the flat top pistons I ordered arrived and as I opened them I was greeted with the sight of 4 dished pistons....so they're getting sent back and the hunt for flat tops continues lol. I also have a 5 speed crossmember from Dave on the way so the 5 speed is just waiting on the garage to be finished up so I have somewhere to take it out. The disassembly should be started pretty soon if everything goes to plan.
I'm starting to get quite the collection of parts in my room.

Re: 1971 2 Door 70s build
Well the garage is almost finished so no more sitting in the driveway for the old girl! Garage door and power should be in by the first of next week. In car related news I'm looking at picking up a cam soon, the current one I'm looking at is 540 lift and 300ish duration.

How did you shrink your 510? It looks like 1/2 scale.
