It also gains a little HP at high RPMs due to less friction on chain, no tensioner just sprockets!

Why the Kameari pistons, I get the chain tensioner etc. but are the pistons that much better than Wiseco, Ross etc to justify the price?

They were cheaper, I was looking at over £700 for Wiesco delivered to the island, Kameari were £500.

It may have been cheaper to build the engine using parts sourced or made here in the UK. Although overlooked by most of the world, we have some amazing engineers and machine shops here. My plan all along with this car was to be true to its origins and build it as it would have been built if it was still in Japan.

I might be slightly daft or mad in the head.

All the parts have been dropped off, the block is going to be dipped and machined and painted. Then a 'test build' with all the parts to make sure it fits. Might have a proper update some time between now and christmas...

My bad! I've not updated this in a while.
Almost 2 years on now and still not much has been done. The engine is now complete, it's at the builders still awaiting collection. Life is busy! We've 90% finished renovating the house so life should resume shortly.

Some work has been done to the head, slightly larger valves and a bit of a tidy up.

Managed to get the original Datsun blue paint also.

It is finished, but I don't have any pictures. I've also got a few other bolt on parts to finish off the theme. Kameari Engine Works again. I've gone for their racing distributor and spindle gear. And I got the racing damper pulley, L6 water pump and alternator bracket.

I need to figure out an alternator, read up loads but none really stuck. My car didn't come with one and looks like it didn't have one when raced either as there isn't any wiring for it.

Internally-regulated alternators (something after '78, I believe) are the way to go - more powerful and simplifies the wiring. But, really, you have a million alt options, just a matter of mounting.

I've not updated this in a while. Sorry for that. So in the past 3 months, the engine has been built, I've had more deliveries from Japan, America and Australia and started to build my garage! The engine has been test fitted so I can get the car shipped to an exhaust fabricator who's going to make a 4-1 into side exit for me. Hopefully the garage will be finished in time to ship it back over here so then I can get on with it.

Automotive Panel Craft. Advertise on eBay and post on a few forums. I've not taken any pictures, but the fit is excellent. They will replace all the lower rusty parts on the passengers side (left side of the car) and the rear valance. I ordered the right too even though it's not as bad and could probably have been patched easily enough. I still need to buy a set of rockers, need to get hold of Dave but put it off for a while and now the £ is worth about as much as a chocolate coin it may pay to wait.

The coupe making a rare appearance in the last picture. The blue is the original Nissan blue too, had someone mix it up for me. I intend to paint the cam cover in a UHT wrinkle black and sand off the NISSAN part.

I took my carbs apart earlier to check the internals, oddly enough no marking on the emulsion tubes but the retainer had 200 stamped on the top for the air corrector and 150 at the bottom of the jet. Idle jet had 60 stamped on it. See how it goes, I'll buy some spares (use Weber parts) and tune it on a dyno.

Next update will be the exhaust manifold. Some point soon.

Nice, are you going to use the Kameari manifold for the exhaust too, or something like the Troy Ermish Comp style header? This is such a cool car, can't wait to see the bodywork get done.

Thank you. I won't be using Kameari for the exhaust no, I want mine to tuck up in the transmission tunnel and exit out the side like the original one did. Their system would sit too low for me and I didn't think Troy liked shipping large parts?

The original manifold was removed some time ago in Japan and the side exit part got damaged in transit.

A good friend of mine is an excellent fabricator and makes some very good looking parts.
