well I had a stab at repairing the belted goon from the weeds. with the blueX4 on hold I rolled the goon inside. well I dragged it with the forklift due to a stubborn rear drum. busted adjuster led to pulling of the drum. every thing looked new, besides some cobwebs.
tore into the floor striped, cleaned then cut out the rust. the lower frame rail was ruff backed it all up with 11ga. bent up and butted in the toe pan then rosettes for the floor. with the floor complete I moved towards the the front poking and prodding at the thick undercoat. some rust was found behind the brake block thing, cut a few squares out with the grinder and was met with a box of cornflakes. lower frame rail surgery, no problem but before I started I did more poking. the cowl, upper frame rail and A pillar area is
toast. combine that with 1/4s, dogs and rocker ends.........anyone after springs, rear, tank ? cuttings ? maybe I should steal Byron's Idea and build a covered wagon trailer ?

That's going to be an awesome trailer. I want one!

the rotted hood makes a great filler panel. the curve on the back of the hood is very close to the curve on the top of the windscreen.

looks about right

I have a few old school tow bars I may use as a tongue or make my own out of box tube and use a serge brake tongue with a built in master. is serge needed ? I was thinking of keeping the ebrake and mounting a ratchet lever to the tongue like the mill spec trailers.

That's awesome! Are you going to keep the rear doors functional? I don't know if it's long enough to lay down it but if it is this thing would make a sweet camper.

the rear door will stay functional. the only rub is how to lock and unlock them with out climbing through the back. shes 7ft on the inside, plenty of space to stretch out in.

got the tongue welded on and the front closed in. lots of seams to fill.

soon the tough bit...making a hitch on my radio flyer and choosing what color to paint the trailer. my first thought was red to match the pull car but if im going to use it as a bivouac it should be white or at least have a white roof to keep it cool.

How about making it look like a vintage Airstream? Not aluminum but painted an al. color. Could look bad ass.

I love the use of the original sheet metal. I've pondered for many years what I was going to do on the front of my trailer. I figured another rear hatch was going to be my answer. In this way I can see backwards through the trailer if not loaded to the hilt. However what you have done is pretty cool. The lines in the hood panel that you used break up the front and it works.

My trailed was not going to use the stock rear axle or suspension. I was thinking of going either dropped trailer axle, or utilize the hydropneumatic trailing arm axles similar to what travel trailers utilize. Either axle type I was considering using was to drop the floor as much as possible to make the most interior space and keep the CG low. The other intention was a to make it as light as possible. Judging by your tongue material, it's not so much a concern for you :D
for the side panels, I was going to use door skins only, scrap the functionality of the doors. It is great for access, but it's also weight. I was going to opt for a single piece of safety glass down the sides - panel van style, and then install curtains like I did in my X-Canada wagon. I'd do this glue in and avoid the use of a rubber seal.

Your choice on the other hand is simple and strait forward. And nearly there which is a hell of a lot more than i can say about my trailer project!

Very cool Robyn, keep the photos coming.

every thing just kinda fell together on this one, I just made it up as I went along. the use of the doors and hood to fill in the gaps was done purely because Im cheap and didn't want to go buy more steel....well and recycling is fun.

your trailer sounds a little more ambitious than mine. dropping the floor sounds like a big job.
a light trailer would be nice.......I think the tongue steel adds 120lbs and another 100lbs for the wood deck.
