68 Dime, My car for Highschool!

Postby That4doorKiD » 18 Aug 2015 21:48

So it was originally my brother's 510, but he never continued working on it, just died out for him, so here I come to make this my first car.
Doing this update bearly, and took me about 6-7 months so far.

So currently, I have little last things to do...

-Put on Carburetor
-Attach push linkage
-Weld up exhaust
-Find and attach 2.5in. hoses for gas tank neck upgrade
-Bleed Brakes, Clutch(new slave cyl btw)
-Seat Belts 2 point race harness
-DMV papers, Car insurance...

I need bre spook or MK1 Large Duckbill?

BTW This is how my dime used to sit a couple months ago, currently on jacks because of my current finishings/doing right now.

Damn good start - nice car... and nice 68 dash!

Man I love 68’s.

Looks like it has good bones to start with, and you are keeping it relatively simple and strait forward. You'll enjoy it.

That muffler looks good, but you might find you'll have to hack and slash to make it fit - 510's are not very muffle friendly.

Welcome - heck of a photo introduction => keep it coming.

Wheels are awesome. Echoing Byron's comments about the muffler, it needs hacking or you're going to hang it low to clear. I run 4" round mufflers in the stock location and it fits easy, but once tried a 2.25" Dynomax Turbo and it wasn't fitting, and that was a single-outlet!

Did you calculate the resulting rear spring rate after cutting? What's your front spring rate? Generally you want the rears to be slightly stiffer, but have to account for the rear motion ratio since the spring is inboard of the wheel relative to the pivot at the crossmember.

Great progress!

I think the Ebaich springs are 250lbs in front And didn't calculate the rear, they were pre-cut springs.

I'd recommend determining the rear spring rate. Rate could be all over the map depending on what spring was used. If stock rear spring was cut, even that much, you're nowhere near 250in/lb wheel rate, so it'll probably understeer bad. If a Roadster Comp spring was cut, you might be north of that and have oversteer as an issue.

Put it on trailer to get aligned and tranny made this nasty rubbing noise, from throw out bearing possibly. Any who, I don't know what to do about that :?: , besides buy a new one, but which bearing do I use? Also got to register my car finally.

I've been impatient lately because of this tranny problem and haven't worked on it for abou 2-3 weeks.

I like the stock camber, how low the straps pull it down, about how low i wanna lower it more. and ofc i'll need camber lates in the front too.
