Another win! Okay turns out they stop official timing at 7:00... Of coarse my killer time happened at 7:04.... I'm cool with second in RWD though. It's just a blast driving like a maniac! I had trouble with the new coarse so it took me a little longer to get a really good time in. My problem was all the previous events the slalom was every other cone. This event it was 2 cones to the right, one to the left, 2 to the right, 3 to the left... My brain was stuck in every other..... haha. So lets just say I had a couple laps of some serious drifting changing my mind mid corner :)

If Gopro's weren't so crappy I would have video. The last two events I brought it but as per normal it had issues and wouldn't record.

Ask James if you can borrow his GoPro. It is still brand new in the box; I don't think he's ever turned it on.

I love the title of that video ---> "This video is about auto cross." OK.

Hey Jeff,

In regards to that pivot cone, you are losing time there. As you are NOT bound by cones to your left, I would carve a larger arc out to the left...think of that as a larger corner than it actually looks like. Just after that keeper cone on your left, sweep out and then make a late apex, you will carry more momentum. It all helps when that clock is ticking and pivot cones almost make you come to a stop as you rotate the car back, where it then has to accelerate from very slow speed. Carrying more exit speed lets you hit that straight with some good velocity and then set up for that sweeper corner into the slalom.

Looks good!

Yeah those two video clips were the first two laps I ever did in competition driving. I very quickly learned that less throttle and adjusting my lines made for better lap times. I want to get a video of how good I am now. That was like 100 laps ago now :) I feel I've grown miles since that video. I need your expertise so I can shave off .7 seconds, that's how far ahead the fastest car of the day was from me on a 55 second lap. I know I can get close if not close the gap. Our next race is in 2 weeks from sunday. I'll try and test my gopro and make sure I can get at least one of them to work so you can tell me what I'm doing wrong.

Slow in fast out, fast in slow out is that not how it goes?

Each corner has it's own criteria, as it depends on the approach, and then WHAT lies ahead. Being setup for the best attack is where the time comes from.

I also look at a course from the aspect of what part can I use the strength of my car on. We all obey pretty much the same laws of physics in terms of cornering grip, so, for me, My car accelerates HARD with the short gears, so, I make sure I attack with the idea that I will maximize that acceleration.

I won the CDN National slalom by re-assessing the course that way.
