Is the Lizard skin sound deadener wear resistant? I really like how it looks and it might help to hide the little imperfections on my floor pans. I don't plan on putting a carpet back into mine.

Yeah it's pretty good, looks pretty scratch resistant and dries very hard. I covered it with the heat insulation which isn't nearly as tough. However, I'm not sure how the sound deadener would hold up the abuse of driving it etc, the kit says it can be topcoated or not, but it recommends topcoating.

For the first time since September she's sitting on wheels again.
Just plugging away at bolting things back on, waiting for some hoses from Nissan and the header to be ceramic coated.

Been a while since I've seen a black 510.
So you planning on making the All Japanese Classic in North Vancouver this year? Looks like you are well on your way.

Absolutely! Come hell or high water the plan is to get it done by the end of May, then mess around with getting it through ICBC just in time to drive it around this summer. When do I need to register by?
The shop lights don't light it up at all, but in the sun it'll be a lot more blue than black.

Thanks Byron. Just want to get it all in the car to see what it looks like...
But before that, the vintage air system came in. I went with the Compac over the Mini, they are marginally different in size but apparently the compac's performance is noticeably superior. So this is it mounted, not much to show for 3 hours of screwing around but I had to make new mounts since the supplied ones are super thin. It's in there now, the passenger will just need to watch their feet. More to come...

How much does a system like this cost for the 510? My heater core is in pretty bad shape and needs a complete rebuild by a professional shop. The vintage air system sounds like a good alternative.

It was 1300 US for the complete kit, includes all AC lines, fittings, compressor, evaporator, brackets, condenser, safety switch, controls, wiring and drier. It's not cheap but I think well worth it if you plan on driving your car for a long time and in warmer weather. My decision to buy this over keeping the stock heater core was mainly based on the fact that heater valve, heater control rods & heater core weren't readily available. Figured spend double, have AC and components that are easily replaceable. I'm not sure what they have for just heat if that's all your after, best to call them up and have the catalog up while you talk to them.
You'll have to do some fitting, cutting of the dash in a few spots to route the new ducting but otherwise it's pretty straight forward. This month I'm not going to work on it too much since I have to finish the truck and be gone for work but beginning of May I'll go full steam ahead and will post more pics.

Well it's been a while again, just haven't found much time lately but that should change... famous last words.
Finally got the AC compressor in, man it's tight. Had to remove material from one of the unused mounts. Used the stock 240SX bracket so I could use its tensioner. The condensor is also in, hard to see behind the rad. There is maybe a 1/4" between the rad and the water pump. Not gonna be fun to work on that's for sure, but whatever. Should get this plumbed and then finally fired next week.

Question for you. How much of the unit goes into the passenger side foot area as I can't tell from the angle of the picture. Was planning to do Vintage air myself and was looking into which unit to get. Was probably going to go with the Vacuum ShortPac - Heat, Cool and Defrost from Vintage air as it seems the measurement may fit were the heater core unit goes. Just not sure if the unit is the same capacity as yours bigger unit. And if I want the OEM look I'm sure you can prob cover it with the heater core cover I suppose. Doesn't look like you need to modify the glove box too as the510keeper on Ratsun forums. Let me know how it goes and great build.

It sticks into it about 10", but I don't think it's the end of the world for having your passenger not kick it since it's tucked up pretty good. You can rest your foot behind it and I don't think it is really in the way to a detrimental effect.
I evaluated it from measurements and knew it wouldn't be perfect, but the extra capacity made me go with the compac over mini. The measurements between those two units are marginal but the added capacity of the compac really make a difference. I read a review on a 240 that had the mini installed and it was a little undersized. Given that I am in on the west coast in the land of igloos I don't think mine will be challenged as much as somewhere down where it's much hotter in the summer. The real problem I have with it is the middle duct going out under the deck, the stereo hits it as is and that doesn't even include having an elbow on there, so a bit of plastic / fiberglass will be required. Other than that it's pretty good. I can't talk to the ShortPac, but if it's a better unit let me know...
Should get back on it this weekend and will post more pics of routing etc.
